Okay so my e-party is now booked for June 16. I am so excited. we are having it at a hall now instaed of my moms backyard. I just don't know what is actually done at engagement parties . Do you have a cake? Do you do a speech? Do you do a dance? Help me so I don't look like a fool.

Re: engagement party
You can do anything you want. You can hire a DJ for some dancing. your parents can make a toast and congradulate your engagment. You can serve desserts or a cake as a dessert. There really are no rules.

We didnt have a DJ at ours but a friend of mine did. It depends on what kind of party you want to have

Re: engagement party
We had a DJ at our party. My FH made a toast to our guests and me and we also had a cake. We didn't do any annoucements or special dances or anything like that, but that was just our personal preference.

Theres no set of rules of what you HAVE to do...Most people get a sheet cake...Speech is up to you too, our DJ suggested the father of the groom to do a speech since at the weddings theres not alot that that involves the fog, my MOH also mentioned doing a speech but were not sure yet...We hired a dj so we will have dancing, and not everyone does this but FH and I are going to dance to a song by ourselves

Re: engagement party
at mine there was no dancing just dinner and the BM made a VERY short practice speech
we had a sheet cake with our picture on it as a surprise from FMIL which was very nice
i wouldnt do too many special dances - e parties are pretty short

i think it is nice to do a toast, i wouldnt do a dance with my father though b/c i feel like that is special for just the wedding...well, if i had a dj maybe i would dance with him, but i wouldnt make it a formal dance or anything. just my opinion.

yeah thats what i meant - like i wouldnt do a special dance where only two of you are on the dance floor but i make sure i dance with my dad for one slow dance whenever we are at an event together - and now i started doing that with FFIL, which he pretends to hate but he doesnt have daughters so i think he appreciates it deep down inside lol
but if i had a DJ i may have done a special dance just with FH

Re: engagement party
We are just having an early dinner at a restaurant. We rented out a room and about 45 people will be there. Its simple, just a bunch of 4 - 6 person tables all around and a buffet. It's really an opportunity for my family and his family to meet...just our parents have met so no one else really knows each other. Its on Sunday so I'm nervous! Oh yeah, we arent having any friends except for the bridal parties and their sig others.

Re: engagement party
Here are our plans: e-party on 3-25 at a firehouse, we have a dj, we are picking some of out favorite songs and no set dances (saving it for wedding) we are not asking our bridal party to week of e-party, so we are 'annoucing' the bridal party at the e-party. we are having a catered / and family cooked party. plus a large canolli and also a cake. I planning on thanking the guest for coming a such, with a small speech

You can do whatever you want. It's your party!!!
We had a DJ and the BM (FH brother) and MOH (my sister-in-law) made a short speech. We also did a 1st dance. ( the song is on my page) Also had cake & favors. So basically it was like a mini wedding!! A lot of our guests (friends) were saying that. Our families are used to the big Italian parties!!
