Hi girls, My engagement party is this Saturday and people have amazed me with their rude questions! We're not doing it for the gifts, but everyone is asking if they should bring one or what people bring to engagement parties. It makes me so uncomfortable! And I just had one of my bridesmaids ask me - she had an engagement party herself and I brought her a gift! How should I handle this? Luckily, it is coming up fast so hopefully people will stop asking me. TIA.

Re: engagement party
I had my good friend ask, and I told her - oh just bring yourself (trying to avoid question)
She sent me a gift 2 weeks later with a sorry so late note on it.
I think people realize they should've brought something after.

Re: engagement party
why in the world would someone say that to the person throwing the e-party. Of course you're not going to tell them what to bring or to bring a gift at all, that's just awkward.
I wouldnt know how to respond....I agree that it would be tacky to answer a tacky question, i would just shrug my shoulders and laugh it off.

Wow what an absolute ridiculous question. Lets face it! I mean come on here do any of us really go to a party that have actually sent out an invitation & you RSVP'd to without a gift??? PUHLEASE! I mean i know we all just want to celebrate thsi most amazing time in our lives but really why is it so hard for people to figure out that a little gift of anything to help start off your new life together isnt a bad idea.??? DUH!
Im sorry i really didnt have a problem like this for my Eparty everyone brought gifts (which we are extremely thankful for) & they were all monetary gifts as well. HOW VERY NICE!

I think people ask that question to the engaged couple so that you would feel more inclined to tell them,'oh bring nothing or just bring yourself' and then they can get away with bringing nothing.
I personally didnt care whether or not we got gifts at our party

Re: engagement party
HAHA since when do you ask the people throwing the party if they should bring a gift?? Thats pretty tacky! Besides a gift is something you buy to show your 'love' or 'well wishes'..umm not because your 'suppose' to...people are nuts these days I swear!
I really have no clue how you should answer that..it puts you in a REALLY akward place..
Maybe you should say 'Yea, only if you want to come into the party though' Can you imagine the rumors that would fly then?!?

Re: engagement party
I told everyone not to bring a gift and I really meant it since we were just doing a BBQ... but almost everyone brought one anyway, I felt bad.

Re: engagement party
It's true that e-parties aren't supposed to involve gifts, but nowadays, of course, everyone brings one. I think it's weird if she had a party and you brought a gift that she said that, I mean, duh. But, generally, I would just tell people it's not necessary, especially if the woman is coming to the e-party, shower and wedding . . . . Likelihood is they'll bring something anyhow, or feel bad if they don't!!!
