Since this the second time we are engaged I don't plan on asking for much from anyone. Last time we had 2 and a half years until our wedding. This time it will be just about a year. Do you think that an engagement party is tacky when we are not going to be engaged for that long? I hear so many mixed reviews about engagement parties.
We didn't have a party last time although people did give us gifts.

In this case, personally, I think it's better not to have one. If you have an e-party people who've already given you a gift the first time around may feel the need to give a gift again, and that might put them out. JMO.

If you want to do something to celebrate keep it simple...maybe just family and close friends.

I had one awhile after I was engaged and put 'No Gifts Please' and told everyone who asked I just wanted everyone to have a good time and celebrate!

OH WAIT DID U HAVE AN EPARTY THE FIRST TIME U WERE ENGAGED? Because then i say no party! Maybe a gtg with friends & fam no gifts please!

No, No! I wouldn't even be asking if I had one the first time.
Here is the issue: My parents are divorced so everything is like a 3-4 step process in my life. I want my FH's family (all 7 of them) to meet both sides of my family (all 1000 of them). It is very awkward having both sides of my family in the same place. Non of them really care for eachother (my mom's family and dad's family) but they will do it for me. I don't want to wait until the wedding because that is cutting it so close. And I don't want to have 2 seperate dinners to introduce his family to my family because I feel that is a lot for them to have to do. So, I was thinking an engagement party would be an easy way to bring EVERYONE together. But since this is a second engagement to the same person I feel awkward asking anyone to do anything! GRR!

I just got 'engaged' and we are having ours Saturday...its just shy of a year to be engaged.

I think you should have some sort of party but not necessarily an engagement party. I don't think the amount of time before your wedding matters. I think the fact that you were previously engaged to the same guy that would make me a little hesitant.
Then again, I'm not big into E-parties. FH and I decided not to have one. Even though we've had to go to everyone elses.

I say do something fun, instead of having an official engagement party, why not just a get together to have everyone meet and greet, maybe a halloween party so you have time to plan, that way people will still get together but not feel obligated to give gifts.

i say have one...we are in a similar situation (we were engaged and had an eparty booked but cancelled it and got unengaged, but now we are reeengaged)...and i just booked mine for 8/23 (364 days before our wedding!) i dont expect ppl to give gifts at this one (i did at the time of the first one) and i really just want to celebrate our engagement. we are having it at a civic center in our town
