Engagement Party

So I just what some opinions....cause no one will give me a straight answer! LOL.

My fiance and i got engaged in November and we have been wanting to have an engagement party since but either have been lazy or just putting it off cause it was becoming expensive. Anyway, We both are going to do it now but 1 for just fam and the other just friends at our house (apartment not big enough for everyone). My question is, Do you ladies think its way too late for a party now? we were planning on doing it mid Feb....ill cook everything and cocktails.

You think its to close to the wedding (october) and would be too much with the bridal shower, bach party and so on?? You think we should just forget about it?

TIA!!

If you do a low key thing I think it's fine. I would maybe tell people 'no gifts' though although ppl will probably bring them anyway, that's what happened to us.

Nah, I don't think you're too late. Especially with all the holidays that just passed, I think it's pretty understandable.

IMO - as long as it is on the smaller side, i think its totally ok. sadly, i was really bothered by someone who had a FULL BLOWN party only a few months before the wedding. its a lot to ask of ppl to do that, then the shower, then the wedding. but that is JMO. we did a small dinner for our parents and bridal party. so we could celebrate being engaged, but so WE didn't have to spend a CRAP load 6 months before the wedding. sorry to be so blunt! hth..

First off....THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR THE ADVICE! I appreciate it so much =)

JamDancer.....when did you have yours?

I think I may go ahead with it. Theyre not going to be big....just a casual get together at my house with homeade food

And I will say that...no needed gifts. Ive had people say that but people always bring them.

I definitely don't think it's too late. We are actually having ours Feb 15th and getting married in June. A lot of people think we are having it waaay too late, etc. etc. However, for a myriad of reasons, an eparty for us got pushed back and back in 08, and this is when we were able to have it. More than anything, we want our BP to meet, and our families don't even know each other! We've stressed NO GIFTS since it's so close to the wedding. I say, do what makes you happy. Everyone is going to have a different opinion,

I think if you're doing someting small, it should be fine, if you were having a BIG thing with like 100 people, I would say its a little late, but in your case, go for it, it should be lots of fun and a nice way to celebrate your engagement!!

We did a christmas party at the house with our bridal party/immediate family , and said the 'no gifts' thing and meant it but still did get some things, also a lot of people brought wine wooohoo . If you want to have a party and are afraid people will think you are just looking for a gift just tell themyou don't want gifts.

I personally am not a fan of e parties. I think if you are just doing it at your apt and its low key then go for it.

Just saw this! We got engaged last April and we had our eparty in August at FH's parent's house. We had a backyard Luau! We made it nice-casual, catered some pulled pork, pineapple chicken and other stuff, had lots of apps, tropical drinks, volleyball, horseshoes, pool, and cake! It was a blast!

We wrote on the invites 'Your presence is our gift' but 99% of people gave us $$ anyway... which I feel bad about bc we really just wanted to celebrate!

Also just noticed we have the same date!

Hey Rach
HAHA..Found you!

I think you should totally do it. It's one night to come over and have everyone celebrate you and Mike. It is by far not to late. People don't have to bring something if they feel that way but the people close to you will!
I don't know if you should burden yourself by making everything (food and drink) though! Remember it's still a party for you guys!
What about doing hero's and what not?

Re: Engagement Party

Looks like you decided already but I just looked it up in my book from Mindy Weiss (which is the best resource for all things wedding.)

Here is what she says:

'There are no hard-an-fast rules about when to hold the party, but it usually takes place at least two months after the engagement and no later then six months before the wedding - after that, it's simply too close to all of the showers and the wedding itself and guests may feel like they are being 'hit up' for too many gifts.'

You shouldn't write no gifts expected because your not supposed to expect gifts at an e-party anyhow.
