Engagement Party

OK, I need everyones opinion. I am getting married June 25, 2011, and I want to have an engagement party. It's been four months since we got engaged and we were thinking about having the engagement party close to the year mark. My mom thinks that this is a bad idea because she said I would be gauging (mispelled) lol. the guests it being so close to the wedding date ( a year from now).. what should I do? Ps. another factor we want the party in my parents backyard. Did I wait to long or should I have the party?

I don't think you waited too long to have the party. People aren't required to bring gifts. Just have a nice little get together, have a cake and leave it at that. that's what I did

I don't think you waited to long. I got engaged in Dec 09 and my eparty is July 10. I am getting married Aug 11. So its just about a year before. I don't think people will think anything. Its totally up to you.

I had mine exactly 13 months before our wedding date. I think it's ok to have one still. Maybe do it in May?

Here is the update.. My mother agreed to do it in June.. which makes me relieved, so let the planning begin!!

I got engaged on January....
My Eparty will be on August...
Wedding will be some time around Sep-Oct 2011 (or early 2012!)

I got engaged in Feb, 2010 and am having my engagement party in July 2010 and am getting married May 2011......I dont think there is a rule when you have to do it by, its whatever you want!!!!!
