My FH and i don't know if we should have an engagement party. Our date is July 2012. We just feel bad making people spend money for the engagement party, and then the shower, wedding etc. Also, what is the timeline for e-parties? Help!

Re: Engagement party?
FH and I are not really having an engagement party either. If we do have something, it will be very small with just our closest family and friends with food and drinks. But this might not happen till later on this summer.

FH and I are having an E-Party. You should probably have it a year (or more) before your wedding.

Re: Engagement party?
FH and I are also planning a July 2012 wedding. We got engaged August 2010. We are planning on having an engagement party this summer, probably July, which is a year away from our wedding. We were going to have it sooner but some personal issues have come up along the way. I think it is totally OK to have an engagement party a year before your wedding. People that want to celebrate with you will, no matter what!

Re: Engagement party?
We had one two months after we were engaged and didn't even have a date yet. I think it is nice to celebrate your engagement. If you are uncomfortable with people spending money on you then you can ask for no gifts or just have close family.
I had close family and the two friends FH grew up with. It was small and intimate but a lot of fun.

Re: Engagement party?
Fh and I got engaged at the end of May and had our engagement party in August. Out wedding is January 2012. Because we were having a longer engagement we wanted to celebrate. I think that if you have an engagement party you should make it atleast a year away so that people won't feel too overwhelmed.

Re: Engagement party?
We felt the same way. We got engaged May 2010 and had a little bar thing with some of our friends who were available in June about a month later but very informal that way they wouldnt think to bring gifts because it was more of a bar night if that makes sense. Our families both did little parties for us and we received engagement presents and then we went out with both sets of parents probably 2 weeks after.
I dont think its necessary but it is always fun to party with the people you love!

Re: Engagement party?
Yeah we were thinking maybe something really lowkey, either at a bar or even in my backyard. And I feel like if we don't send out invitations, people might not feel obligated to bring a gift. We really just want to get the close family/friends together.

Re: Engagement party?
we got engaged in May & our eparty was in Oct.
We are getting married May 2012
We had about 75 people at our party & in the end it really helped us out since we are paying for the wedding ourselves! It was a celebration of our engagement! We had a great time & I wouldn't have done anything different...pics in my album

Re: Engagement party?
Since you are getting married in July 2012, which is 17 months away, you can def have an engagement party and not feel bad about it. If your wedding was only a year away, that would be a different story. Start planning!

Re: Engagement party?
I am not having an engagement party because it is just so much money and I want to focus on the wedding
