My MIL wants to throw us an engagement party! So excited..Are you going to have one? will it be themed?? The wedding is going to be vintage (lace, pearls) Should the party be themed or not???

We didn't have an engagement party. We just had a family dinner with both immediate families. It was nice and personal, but engagement parties are exciting! If I did have one, I love classic themes - you can't go wrong with vintage or black & white!

we have a similar problem because we live with my dad and once we are married we are just dorming out the house to make it bigger and will live here still. maybe after that we'd need some new things but right now we have all this stuff and everything is almost new so I have no idea what to register for but I think you have to register for something because some people do not like giving just cash.
maybe some towels or anything you guys might need? or you could just put random things and then go return them lol (bit sneaky though). I know for our engagement party people were already asking where we are registered and my mom insisted we can't just ask for cash. even if you register for a picture frame or toasting glasses, or anything. especially older people they like to give actual gifts. even one of my girls told me she has to get me an actual present and if I could pick out a picture frame I like that she'd buy.

I think my FH's dad and step mom are throwing us one in September, with all the families. And also his Mom and step dad are throwing us a mini one to invited all of the neighbors and family friends because they all can't fit at the same time lol. I never expected any party so I'm thrilled to have whatever. I don't think there is going to be a theme though, prob very informal

Something I have considered and will probably do, because Josh and I have lived together for 3 years ago and have accumulated a ton of crap and don't really need much more...
It's called Honeyfund... it's basically like they give you monetary donations toward your honeymoon. Seems legit. Check it out!

Re: Engagement Party...
Our engagement party, will be in our backyard in September! Very informal, bbq, DJ/Music, drinks. We're having our mmediate family and bridal party in the afternoon and then we're doing a 'friends bash' later on in the night. Inexpensive, and a great way to have all of the families/friends come together. We're also not registering until bridal shower time comes around, because whatever money/giftcards we do get, we're going to put towards down payments on our vendors!
Honeymoon Wishes is the BEST idea!! My FH and I have lived together for about a year and a half and we pretty much have all the essentials and on top of that, we're paying for our wedding. So, when it comes time to register, all we have to do is put a deposit down to save the date and room (All of the Sandals Resorts participate in Honeymoon Wishes) land et our guests put money on our air fare, hotel stay, any excursions, ect. We cover the balance. It honestly is the best idea for couples that already live together and/or are paying for their own wedding. One less thing to stress about saving over!!

My mom and dad are throwing us one in september for my side of the family. I registered for some basic stuff because FH and I are planning on buying a house before we get married. My aunts and cousins were asking me to register because they wanted to buy me something. So I did like some kitchen electrics and pots and pans.
I'm excited for the party though! It should be fun.

We decided not to have an engagement party but after our parents huffed and puffed we agreed to a family dinner! We're just having about 25 people (close family and bridal party) and going to a Hibachi place since our first date was at a Hibachi restaurant!

Engagement Party...
We just had our engagement party. We chose a local legion hall and kept it to close family and friends. We (and by 'we' I mean 'I' lol) wanted the engagement party to celebrate since I knew we were planning on a long engagement. I had somewhat of a theme but it did not match the colors I want for the wedding which I was totally fine with. Also we did not register because we don't have our own place either and I felt that's what bridal showers are for BUT we did receive housewarming gifts anyway like pots and kitchen things so be prepared. We will just put that stuff away and its one less thing to register for when the time comes.

We didn't register and literally every guest gave us monetary gifts, and one gave us a gift card to Bed, Bath, & Beyond.
