Engagement Party

So FH and I got engaged in December and pretty much all of our closest friends gave us a little something as well as some family... We don't want to OFFICIALLY ask our BP until it is closer to the wedding (5-15-15) and we don't want to ask our friends for more gifts. Do we have an engagement party now or wait until it's closer to the date to ask our BP at the same time? Can we say that we don't want gifts? Of course we wouldn't be upset if someone gave us something but we don't want people to feel that they have to especially if they have already.... what to do??

With all of that being said, I still want to celebrate our engagement!!! It has been a long time coming and I want to share it!!
