Engagement Party

Me and my FH have been engaged since November '02, the wedding is on November 5, 2004
do you think that if we have the engagement party in October or November '03 that that will be okay.

And where do you usually have the engagement party??? I want to have it at my FH house b/c his parents just redid they entire first floor, but some of my engaged friends are having there's at restaurants or halls.

Any help would be great.

And also do you give out favors at the engagement party???

I think the timing for your party is fine, as long as the wedding date is still at least a year away.
As far where to have it, I think your FH's house sounds perfect. I had my E-Party on my sisters deck and it was so much fun. We had it on a Sat. evening, hired a DJ, rented a tent and had a ton of candles and globe lights everywhere for ambiance. Of course having a ton of alcohol and good food helps too. I think as long as you throw the party right, it is even better than having it at a restaurant or hall. Save the hall for the wedding.

I think the timing of the party is fine. We had ours Aug 23, 2003 and our wedding is October 1, 2004.

We had our Eparty at our house and we got it caterered.

Regarding favors, I didn't give out favors, but it's because I didn't even realize I should. I didn't realize until the day of the party when my hair dresser asked me what were my favors? I was like, 'Oh my God, I didn't even think about doing favors.' It was too late for me to stress about it.

Below is my post regarding the eparty and my vendor review.

I got engaged in March of this year and just had my engagement party on August 9th. It was held at the Paparazzi, the food was GREAT and the SERVICE was awesome!!! My FH is the manager there, can you tell

Re: Engagement Party

as a guest...I think one year in advance is good timing...otherwise you will have your e-party, shower, and wedding in less than a year. that can be a lot for guests. I also think a more casual affair is fun. My friend just had her's in her FH's back yard and it was great. The food was awesome, it was relaxing, and casual. Party's at a hall are fine too, but I agree to save the hall for the wedding.

i think 1 year ahead is perfect timing, and having it at Fh's house sounds nice, you'll be relaxed that way

We ahd a backyard party which was awesome! As long as you have the three main ingredients...GOOD FOOD,GOOD MUSIC, AND ALCOHOL. You are fine and it does not matter where you have it. We did barbeque/candle lighters as favors, with our names printed on them and the date. I also had made little save the date tags on the computer and tied them to the favor.

Re: Engagement Party

I am having my eparty September 27, 2003 and we were engaged April 19, 2003. We are having it at the Pavillion on Lake Ronkonkoma which is a hall. And we are doing the cooking. So it is still a casual feeling. Have it where you want to have it and dont listen to anyone else. Just enjoy it!!

Re: Engagement Party

I think your plans sound perfect! I have been to several engagement parties at people's parents' houses and they are really homey and personal. Plus, I would think your in-laws would be flattered you like their house. The parties I have been to didn't have any dj. They served a buffett that was catered or cooked by the family or a combination of the two. And pretty casual food. But it would probably be easier to hire a bartender so you don't have to worry.

I am just going to have a party in my parents yard. I am not going to invite that many people.

I am confused. Is this is an old post? did you have the e-party in Oct-Nov 2003?
