Engagement party dilemma

I just got enegage this month and I am trying to plan an engagement party. My sister in law is pregnant and due Sept 12 th, so I am torn. Should I have it before or after? If it is after I would have to wait till end of October and I think that is too far away?

Re: Engagement party dilemma

I dont think October is too far away. I got engaged Sept 13 and our e-party is August 9

I would wait till October because you can plan, save if you are doing this yourself, and your SIL and new baby will be there

Re: Engagement party dilemma

I don't think the end of October is too far away. It might seem like that now b/c you just got engaged. My friend got engaged March 02 and had her engagement party March of 03 and got married May 03. We might not have our until next May!

It might be easier for you to have it before she has the baby though b/c after she will be caught up in baby stuff. Why don't you have it in July or August? A nice summer e-party.

Re: Engagement party dilemma

I think the end of October will be fine. Unless you really have your heart set on having one this summer, in which case you might want to book everything very soon and get the invites out for an end-of July -early August party.

Re: Engagement party dilemma

haivng it after the baby makes it easier for your sil - who come closer to 9 months won't want to do much of anything...or so i have heard! - this way you can have your new 'baby to be in law' there too!!

Re: Engagement party dilemma

I don't think October is too far away, but having it in the summer would be nice (as long as it stops raining)!

Re: Engagement party dilemma

I would think you'd have enough time to put together a nice summer b-bq or party in mid-August. Still gives you a few weeks to figure out the details and then it will be a month from your SIL's due date.

Re: Engagement party dilemma

I was engaged June 18th last year and had the party last November. In hindsight, I would have even waited until this summer, a year in between, just because I would have known what I was doing for the wedding and been able to talk to people about it, plus I feel it's been forgotten about since it was so long ago (our wedding is next May)

Where was I? Oh, You can definitly wait.

Re: Engagement party dilemma

I got engaged May 31st and our engagement party isn't going to be until October. That isn't so long, take the time to spread the news..

Re: Engagement party dilemma

Thanks for the advice! I guess it won't be so bad to wait, now I just have to talk my FH into it.

Re: Engagement party dilemma

Congratulations. October is better. You want everyone to get the baby stuff out of their system so they can focus on the bride stuff. Also if it's her first baby, they'll be having a shower soon.

Enjoy your party planning!
