Engagement party etiquette

I got engaged right before the holidays but we are not having our e-party until this summer. It this considered tacky? Most people have theirs right after their engagement. I live in DC and my parents in LI which is why we waited so long. We are getting married next summer so the party will be a year before the wedding. I think it's fine but now I'm starting to second-guess myself.

I think it's completely fine. As a matter of fact, the engagement parties I've attended have always been quite a few months after the actual engagement! Good luck!

Thats fine. We were engaged on New years eve and then had our party in August. We wanted to have it outside & were glad we waited.

It's totally fine. We got engaged in October and are having our party June 1. It is all about what is good for the both of you.

I agree with the others - we were engaged Dec of 2000 and had our engagement dinner in May of last year.

I see no problem with it as long as it is still a year before the wedding.. Our engagement is only 140 days long... so we naturally had no time for one

My cousin was engaged christmas 1995...eparty summer 1996 and wedding summer 1997...very similar!!

I think you can also have an eparty with less that one year to go...

I think that your timing is fine. As long as you have a few months before your wedding date the e-party can be anytime. I got officially engaged in Aug. 2001 and my e-party was March 2002. My FH's family is from MA so we had to wait a bit to coordinate everything.
