Congratulations!!! I don't know the etiquette on this one. I know people who had long engagments and had their parties almost a year after getting engaged. I think most people probabaly have it within the first 3 or 4 months.

I'm not sure either. We had ours about 6 months into our engagement. You don't want to have it too close to your bridal shower or wedding bc/ people get annoyed giving so many gifts at once! lol!

Congrats! Not sure about the rules for this, but I would probably have the engagement party closer to the wedding date, so that the guests will have your upcoming wedding more in mind.

i thought about that too but i wasnt sue since the wedding is 2 years away if it seemed tacky to be engaged now and then not celebrate the engagement until a year later

Have it when you want to have it. We got engaged in july 06 and had the party april 07. Just the way it worked out. My sister on the other hand got engaged this past christmas ('07) and will have her engagement party June this year.

I would try to have it more than a year before your wedding though. That way if you get cash gifts you can use them for your deposits for the wedding.

My personal opinion is that you should have the engagement party within a few months of getting engaged and not close to the wedding.

I think anytime in '08 would be good. That way it still leaves enough time before your wedding gets here.

im not really sure

we got engaged july 3 and had our eparty sep 16 so ours was within 3 months....but since you are getting married until 2010 i dont think you need to rush and have it right away.....but im not sure

Re: Engagement Party Etiquette

ok, so with alot of people asking this, I did a little research.

Every website has said the following:

1) you must be engaged.

2) both the bride and groom-to-be must be present.

These things seem very 'DUHH' to me, but I guess to some people they wouldn't be?

Timing is something that is apparantly not an issue anywhere I've read as long as the above 2 are true!!!!

I would recommend doing it sooner rather than later, but that's just me...

My engagement party was 3 months after getting engaged, and 15 months before my wedding

A friend of mine had her engagement party 8 months after getting engaged and 10 months before her wedding

We got engaged on Christmas, and are not getting married until early 2010...we are having out engagement party at the end of April...That will be 4 months after getting engaged and a lil more then a year and a half till our wedding

you should do it within 3 months of being engaged, or else i think it's a little bit much.

Re: Engagement Party Etiquette

our engagment party was about 4 months after the engagement and 2 years before the wedding. We hadn't even set the date officially at the e-party but we knew what year we were doing it... I liked this because it gave people more time in between celebrations

I probably wouldnt have an E-party beyond 6 mos of being engaged.. the sooner the better.

We did in 8 months after the engagement, but I have to add it was not by choice. We had to plan around family events that were already booked and personal schedules.
I would say within the year is best, so it gives you plenty of time to enjoy your engagement and plan the wedding.

ours was 3 months from when we got engaged, and one year from our wedding date. we had to plan around my school/summer job schedules and that's when it worked out best. Plus, I liked the idea of it being 1 year till our wedding. (well, 1 day less than a year to be exact)
