do most people buy engagement gifts from the registry or not?
my e-party is this weekend and only a small handful of people have bought things (yeah, i know i shouldn't registry stalk ... but curiosity is getting the better of me )

We got a pretty equal balance between gifts and cash.

This might sound horrible, but we purposely didn't register until after our eparty ( we had ours 1 1/2 before wedding) because we were hoping for cash. We started a joint account with it that later was used to pay for things for the wedding.

it doesn't sound horrible at all ... i think most of us would rather get money than gifts but people are too ashamed to say it

This is exactly what FH & I did. We did get a few gifts, but mostly cash and we opened a joint account.. and that was the start of us saving for our wedding... we gave the deposit to the hall with some of that money!

WE rec'ved half cash & half gifts. I actually wanted the cash to put towards the wedding fund.

We received a small amount of cash, a couple of girft cards to the places we are registered, a small portion of registry items, and then other things that were not on the registry

We definitely received more money than gifts but still got a decent amount of gifts. We registered since we both lived on our own before getting engaged so we have many items that you'd normally 'need' when you get married. We wanted to have options available (that we actually did need, not just what people might think we need) for those who wanted to buy gifts.

i got a lot of gifts, we registerd before our e-party invites went out...if not tho, you will just get a lot of cash and gift cards! which is equally as good i think!
