engagement party HELP!

ok,,,the stress begins. my parents want to have a catered party at their house on the deck. they do not have a big back yard so we thought we'd just keep it to immediate family.problem is that fh family is huge and i get the feeling that if i do invite they ALL then someone will be insulted. Its so annoying, i feel bad for my parents since they are doing this all for us. im just going to invite a few extra ppl from his family and thats it. its so hard. any advice?

Re: engagement party HELP!

We had a catered eparty at our house on my parents' deck for 80 people. We absolutely loved it, and wouldn't have changed a thing. We had a tent put over the deck incase it rained (which it didn't), servers, a bar, bartender, tables, chairs, etc. All I can say is that the larger a catered party at home gets, the more expensive it gets. If it is price that you're worried about, then i would suggest you look into having it at a restaurant, b/c by the time we got done it would have been a LOT less expensive to do it that way. If you're worried that people will be insulted if they're not invited- I wouldn't worry to much. It's about what you and FH want, and if you want it to be intimate it should be. Don't waste your time trying to please everybody.

Hmmm...thats a tough one. My FI has a big fam too and thats one of the reasons we didnt have an e-party. Next Sun my mom is having my parents, his parents, grandmas, and my 2 sets of aunts/uncles and my godfather for drinks, cake, coffee. Im not even inviting ANY of my cousins. Even though they all had e-parties, i feel bad mking people feel like they have to give me something for my engagemt. There will be plenty to give for shower and wedding.
If youre not into it, dont do it
