My parents are throwing us an engagement party and I want to do something unique with:
1. Asking people to be in the wedding party
2. Centerpieces
3. Guest book / Picture?
4. Favors
Do you place pictures of each other?
Any cute poems?
Thanks! Jenn

Re: Engagement Party Help
We asked our BP prior to the engagement party via little cards mailed out with the eparty invite, and then at the party all the BMs got a wine glass that said bridesmaid, and all the GM got cigars...
You can see a photo of a table from my eparty in my album...we did mini oil diffusers from micheals taht matched the color scheme of the party..these were wrapped in ribbons with our wedding date on them.
we also bought tall thin vases from micheals and put a single hydrangea in them with some greens...
i made a slideshow with music that the DJ played on a screen and we had glass $1 store frames with our pictures throughout the place...
HTH!

Re: Engagement Party Help
I can't help with most of those ... but we did a guestbook frame thing ... our photographers made this for us free of charge (we gave them a pic, but they would have taken a new one for us if we wanted)

I did the picture sign in board too! We had ours made at staples. For the centerpieces I did DIY dices because it was an Atlantic City themed party, and our favors were wine stoppers. There are pics in my album.

what did you say on the cards for your BP? I like this idea! I want to ask them before the party and this might be a good way to do it!

Re: Engagement Party Help
It was easy and so adorable looking...
I picked up black and gold scrapbook paper and layed the gold paper onto the black paper leaving a border. This was the card base
Then I bought a roll or red tulle, and make little dresses out of it.
Cut the tulle to the length of a 'dress' that will fit in the center of the card. Pinch the tulle above the center (this empire waist) and tie it with a little string. This is the bottom layer of the dress.
Take the black paper (the same paper as the bottom layer of the card) and draw a little dress on it and cut it out. I did simple little strapless sweetheart necks with a triangle bottom. You want the silhouette to be similar to the shape of the tulle, but you want to make sure it a little shorter than the tulle so you can see the tulle underneath.
Then you glue this little dress over the tulle piece, and glue the whole thing onto the top center of the card.
Then I wrote underneath 'Will you be my bridesmaid?'
I also did on for the flower girl
Simple and so adorable. Attached was my inspiration...
for favors, you can do little boxes / bags filled with hershey's kisses
For our e-party we bought little blue boxes with ribbon from Michael's and we are going to fill them with candy! For 100 boxes with ribbon, it came to $ 5 on clearance

Re: Engagement Party Help
I had my engagement party February 27th and I went with a winter wonderland theme. The colors were blue, silver, and white.
1. Asking people to be in the wedding party I wanted to ask my bridal party at the engagement party but unfortunately FH was unable to decide who he thought should be his groomsmen so we decided to not ask them at that point. Also, I have read so many rewiews where brides suggest waiting to ask until the actual wedding date gets closer because a lot can change sometimes in 6 months and we didn't want to regret asking someone that in the end shouldn't have been asked.
2. Centerpieces For my centerpieces we had two thick candles that had glittery snowflakes on them with a snowflake candle holder/plate under. We also bought snowflake scatters that were on the table with silver hershey kisses that we printed our names and engagement party date on little round stickers and put them on the bottom of the kisses.
3. Guest book / Picture? For my guest book, I made a 5x7 scrapbook and on a little more than the first half of the scrapbook I put pictures of FH and I throughout our relationship. I left the rest for people to sign in. It was a really big hit because people were able to look at all of our pictures before signing and some people left really nice comments. It was actually one of my favorite things that I did for the party.
4. Favors My favors were cupcakes which were homemade and I could have not done it without the help of a bunch of people. There are pictures of them in my engagement album and I was so happy with how they turned out. We made them the day before the party and that morning I was soooo nervous because I was stressing a little bit about how they were going to look but they were exactly what I imagined.
Do you place pictures of each other? In addition to our scrapbook that had pictures of us we made our own table numbers. I had 8x10 simple black picture frames with a glittered blue number with a picture of FH and I in the frame. I think that there is a picture of how the table looked and you can see the picture frame if you want to take a look.
It was so much fun planning my engagement party lol my advice is to think of a theme or general color pattern you want to stick with and start from there. There are so many ideas on these boards, take the ones you like and everything will fall into place. Good-luck!

Re: Engagement Party Help
Heres what I did at my e-party..
I didnt want to make anyone feel bad so i didnt make a big stink out of asking the bp or groomsmen so I bought a box of invitations that had a bridemaid dress on them, and printed out a poem (google bridesmaid poems i found tons) on each card.. On the top it had their name, the bottom said will you be my bridesmaid. I then bought a dozen white roses, and little packs of tissues (with brides on them) from michaels. I walked around and gave each bridesmaid the note card, one rose and tissues! We made little satchel bags with little bottles of liquor and a shot glass for the men. He basically said 'here youre in my bridal party! lol)
I also had a sign in guestbook with out picture in the middle. Its a great keepsake, Or you can get black champagne bottles, and have people sign those with a metallic pen- and then drink the champagne on your wedding day or anniversary.
My favors were donations. We printed a thank you note and an explanation of our donations on each table. You can google nice saying to donation cards as well. We dontated to foundations that meant something to us, and said we are so fortunate to have found each other we thought its the perfect time to help someone less fortunate than us.
We bought $5 huge picture frames and put a bunch of pics of us in them, then they placed them on easels.
I will try to upload some pics.

Re: Engagement Party Help
I'm having my engagement party later this month & found a really cute idea to put scrapbook pages out on each table with pens & invite your guests to write pieces of wisdom or advice for you & your FH! I'm going to put pictures of us in the center first and put two on each table.
Another idea is to do a 'relationship timeline' with pictures & mementos of memories - not only does it give your guests something to look at but they can read your story so you don't have to repeat it 50000000 times!

Re: Engagement Party Help
Guest book / Picture? I saw really cute idea at fh's cousins wedding. they set out a table with: a scrap book out with like, those black pages, glue sticks, metallic pens, and a polaroid camera. ppl just took snap shots of themselves (making funny faces, etc), stuck 'em in the book anywhere they wanted, and wrote a nice note. i thought it was such a cute idea!!!!!
Favors. We did a candy buffet table for our favors. i wish i had a pic bc it came out so cute! all diff jars filled with pink and green candy (colors for our wedding and e-party). i got cheap small chinese takeout containers from papermart.com. made a personalized sticker for it on zazzle.com and stuck it on the front.
Do you place pictures of each other? I bought a piece of foamed oaktag board, and made a collage of all diff pics of fh and i, some with friends or familiy. came out cute. i put it on the gift table.
HTH!!!!

you can probably to go a store that makes prints and they'll print your photo, the text, and a border, directly on some thick foam-paper (whatever it's called)
otherwise, you can always DIY it by buying said foam-paper and gluing your picture in the middle
