Tonight I asked my FH is we should have an engagement party. I mentioned the idea of a inform BBQ at our house (we just bought a house LY). All my family is OOS so it'd be his family and friends, which i'm OK with.
Question: I found out his sister is having her engagement party in August. Since we can't do August is July OK? I know your not suppose to jump in front of someone's wedding without talking to them first but does this apply to a engagement party? A lot of our friends are teachers so i feel we can't do Sept...

Maybe talk to her about it? If her plans aren't finalized it's possible for her to do it in July instead... if not, since it is going to be an informal BBQ I honestly don't see the problem with doing it a month before - you have a valid excuse and it's not like you're out to get her hehe

aww thanks... it's so hard when a lot of our friends and family are all getting married in 2011. It's makes the planning a little tricky..

I understand talking to her first but what do you do in general if someone says no or has an issues with it...

I would talk to her. She might totally understand the situation and really not care if you do it a month before her.
If she has a problem with it...you can either just do it anyway and I am sure she won't stay mad for very long or try to understand her position and have it in September.
