engagement party question

engagement party question

My future inlaws are throwing us an enagement party

It's going to be a Sunday brunch (12-4) at a low key country club. Should we have any type of entertainment? I don't think we should get a full blown band or DJ since I doubt it will turn into a dance scene but I'm now fearing after people eat there will just be silence!

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Pam

Re: engagement party question

Maybe you can play some cute engagement games?
Maybe a questioner about you both of you...how did you meet? where did he propose? etc...

You cant satisfy everyone, there will be people that will be bored and people who had a wonderful time so just enjoy the day and don't worry too much about it. congrats!!

Re: engagement party question

i don't think a DJ is necessary... i am having a luncheon and i basically want our families to get to know each other since this will be the first time everyone will be meeting our ENTIRE families. So i will not be having a DJ. But its your personal preference!

A DJ may not be necessary but music is always nice. Bring and IPOD and an ipod dock....make a few playlists....including a dance one You never know!

How many people? It wont be quiet bc people will be chatting and mingling..perhaps the venue can play soft music during the brunch?

Re: engagement party question

My BM just had her e-party two weeks ago on a sat afternoon, same time slot and she didn't have music or anything, the hall played music in the background, and we were nervous that there would be nothing to do. But, honestly everyone stayed the whole time and people were actually happy to be able to talk and meet while not yelling over loud music. The background music was helpful though, so it wasn't dead quiet. But I think you should be fine with no dj, especially if this is a first meeting, it will give ppl a chance to actually meet!

good luck

Re: engagement party question

There will be about 75 people there - a split between immediate family and friends.

I liked the questionaire suggestion - but I think I'm going to keep those for my bridal shower

I will get in touch with the venue to see what kind of music they might be able to play but I will now definitely bring an Ipod with a few different playlist options just in case.

I had my eparty at a vineyard, casual but fun. We had about 100 people and we did not hire a dj. They provided music that played through the speakers in the room. And I admit, I was nervous about not having one but everyone was up and talking the entire time. Everyone had so much fun, it was not necessary at all to have a dj. Our families were more concerned with meeting one another and just talking, which was nice.

My eparty is in 2 weeks. We are having a Sunday brunch too. I think we may just plug in our ipod! =D

Re: engagement party question

i just had my e party last weekend..we had a dj BUT only because it was at night
We originally were planning on doing a brunch and if that was the case no dj
I personally think if its an earlier event no need for entertainment, People will chat and entertain themselves :)

We had a low key party as well and had an ipod hooked up to the places surround sound. It was easy and just added a little background music.

Re: engagement party question

When we had our engagement party, we didn't have any special music. It was at a trendy Vietnamese restaurant and they had some music playing but I never really noticed it. We had the whole place to ourselves and it definitely wasn't quiet. When people come out for these parties, they are usually in conversational mode, so I wouldn't worry about having silence.

Re: engagement party question

You can keep the theme of the party more like a get together and stream in some light music -maybe even some holiday music :)

You can get a harpist or a string trio maybe.
