Do people usually give party favors at an engagement party, and if so, what should I give?

Re: Engagement Party Question
There was a post about this previously. I think some were saying that you should have favors, others saying no. We are having an eng party in a few weeks and I am not doing favors. We have about 230 people coming- I can't have that as an added expense. But since the party is Mother's day weekend, we were thinking of honoring the mothers there by giving a flower or something to each of them and a bouquet to both are moms.

Re: Engagement Party Question
I looked it up and etiquette wise you don't have to give favors- but should you? There are plenty of people on here who will tell you it is rude NOT to give them. I don't agree with that at all.
My parents are throwing us ours on the 26th - my mom decided to go with simple votive candles - my friend's BM's did this as well for her shower - and it cost them very little to do!

Re: Engagement Party Question
I had a casual bbq in my backyard and I did not give favors. My friend had hers at a catering hall, and she gave out those personalized chocolate bars from Hershey. I do not think favors are necessary...

Re: Engagement Party Question
Some people do and some people don't. If you decided to do so I think it shouldd be something small. Like the votive candle idea or something like that. Nothing over the top.

Re: Engagement Party Question
My girlfriend wrapped Hershey Kisses in tulle with ribbon and attached a note that said... 'HUGS AND KISSES FROM THE FUTURE MR. & MRS.' Then they put their names and their wedding date below it. I thought it was the cutest idea!

Re: Engagement Party Question
My eparty was Friday and we gave favors. For my family and family friends it is RUDE not to give favors. For every party my parents have thrown they gave out favors so it was only appropriate for FH and I to do the same. I think its a matter of preference if your family does it or not.

Re: Engagement Party Question
We had our e-party a few months ago and we gave out Godiva box chocolates for favors. HOwever, we also had a pretty formal e-party so I think favors are expected. I think it is a nice gesture and you don't have to do something so $$$, but I think something would be appreciated. Personally, I would consider it rude not to give a favor.

Re: Engagement Party Question
In my opinion, I don't feel it is rude not to give a favor, but it is a nice touch that adds to the party. At my eparty I gave out small boxes of chocolates with our names and the date of the party on the box.

Re: Engagement Party Question
I had my engagement party in my FMIL backyard with a tent last summer. The theme was hearts so my FMIL insisted we give hearts candles with our names on ribbon around them. I didn't think it was necessary because it was informal. I'm actually not giving favors for my wedding. I think that it's a waste of money and many people don't even use what you give. I agree though that it depends on your family and your traditions. Remember what you're celebrating and do what makes you feel happy and comfortable. Good luck!

Re: Engagement Party Question
We gave favors at our eparty. Our eparty was pretty formal also. My FILs got really nice frames from a favor store.
