This is addressed to all those ladies who have had or are currently planning their engagement party. Our wedding is 7/11/04. We were thinking of having a backyard BBQ thing the last weekend in June (this June ) We got enagaged in October. Has too much time passed to do this? Next question...who do you begin to include on a guest list? I know the familes and bridal party, but where do you draw the line on other invites? My FH and I have different views on this and now I don't know what to do. We have to decide very soon because the date is not that far away. Thoughts????

Re: Engagement Party Question
NOPE! It is not too late. We got engaged on April 20, 2002, our engagment party was April 26, 2003, and the wedding will be April 24, 2004.
I think as long as you try to do 11 months to a year out I think it is fine - that way you don't throw your friends and family into to many parties at one time.

Thank you! Your situation is kind of like ours. I just needed to hear someone else say it.

Re: Engagement Party Question
We got engaged October 11, 2002, our engagement party was January 26, 2003. We had it a little earlier because my maid of honor was leaving for Australia two weeks after. I invited besides the bridal party my mothers anuts and uncles (which were only 2 couples), from my fathers side he invited all his first cousins because all his uncles and anuts leave outside of the U.S. and from my FH side, they invited his uncle and aunt and there children and some very close family friends. We ended up with about 5 people. The only reason why i invited mostly anuts and uncles was because, if i didnt invite one the other would get offended so i figured this was a sure way to fix it. And it worked for us.

Re: Engagement Party Question
Yikes! We got engaged in January and are getting married in January, the engagement party(only having one at my mom's insistence) is in two weeks. Now I feel bad that people are having to go to so many parties at once. Plus, my FI's family has two other wedding in the coming year.

Re: Engagement Party Question
Don't feel bad - I think the one year rule is good for those with a long engagement. If you are getting married with less than a year engagement then why be cheated out of a party.

Re: Engagement Party Question
I definitely don't hink it is to late to have an engagement party. We had ours 8 months after we were engaged. We tried to limit it to close friends and family because we were paying $35 a person and didn't have much money. I think some people did get upset that they weren't invited though. Good Luck!

Re: Engagement Party Question
I'm not having one but I don't think it's too late for you. Summers are ideal for a BBQ
