so we were engaged this past may...and we are still not sure if we want an enagement party or not. if anything it will be real casual (at one of our houses or something) when is the right time to have one? do you think we should have one? I don't want to admit to saying this bc I don't wanna sound liek a bioooootch, but someone that works with me said 'we only had an enagement party bc we needed money to put towards wedding things'
now, we've been booking vendors left and right, and my parents are paying for them, me and FH are paying for the reception ourselves (yikes!) and I'm just doing all the math and holy god its expensive lol...now I don't want to just have an engagement party for the money or gifts, bc we are TOTALLY NOT LIKE THAT... but it is very tempting lol
thoughts?

Re: engagement party question
ya know that's up to you. I know FH's family is GUNNING for us to have one and we've asked them to wait.
a party at a house is always nice and that way you can limit your guest list if you don't want something big.

Re: engagement party question
about a week or two after our engagement my mom told us that she would like to throw us one. It's actually in 2 weeks! It is being held at my grandparents house... It's one of those traditions in our family - we are a celebratory bunch! FH's family really didn't know much about them, and I think maybe just 2 are coming (the rest are all out in Cali). We registered about a month ago so that the older crew didn't need to give us $$$, but the $$$$ is ALWAYS welcome! I wanted one just because I like to party, I enjoy having family and friends around me and we thought it was a good excuse... Plus, really yummy food!

No way! That's totally fine--my FH and I wanted one too but we didn't want to throw it either--we wanted just a very small one at one of our parent's houses. I didn't understand why the idea was never brought up since my brother had one and so did my FSIL (thrown by the parents.) It was actually a sore subject because I didn't know why now one cared...haha. Maybe I was being too sensitive. But anyway we asked our parents (was that rude?) and they are throwing one just for close family and the bridal party next weekend. And there's been so much hoopla surrounding it that I'm almost sorry we asked!

Re: engagement party question
We're having one, it's next weekend actually We're paying for it ourselves. We both just really wanted to celebrate w/ our family and friends. Plus our families have never met so we thought this would be a good way to do it.

Re: engagement party question
It can become very expensive. We waited a long time to have our E-Party because we saved up and did it ourselves. If it wil end up costing you more than what you think you will get back I wouldn't but if you think that you could get what you put out back then go for it! It's a fun way to celebrate your engagement and a preparty for the wedding!!!

Re: engagement party question
FH and I threw our own engagement party but we also paid for everything ourselves...honestly all the money we received just covered the event...so everyone chipped in for a night out when you think about it.

Re: engagement party question
FH and I really wanted an E Party to celebrate and bring both families together but no one brought it up and now were paying for our own in a couple of weeks. It isnt really that bad b/c my parents are paying for EVERYTHING else related to the wedding, but still no one even brought it up until I said something. IDK maybe I'm just too sensitive
