Engagement Party Question

Okay, I know it's bad etiquette to throw your own engagement party. Before I got engaged, I never even considered having one. My parents have offered to host ours, and are paying for everything. My question is, how much involvement should I have in the planning? I feel as though my role should be limited to supplying a guest list and maybe suggesting a date. Somehow, though, I'm stuck stuffing and addressing invitation envelopes right now and I'm annoyed (and stressed) because I have finals this week!

I suppose this is more of a rant than anything else, but I am still curious to know the answer to this one. Should I be picking out colors and venues and favors and flowers?

Engagement Party Question

I guess it depends.. Our engagement party was paid for by both sets of our parents.. but I decided almost every detail/did a large share of the work for the party.. I did it because I wanted to/was excited to do it though, and we had a lot of time to plan out every detail.. I don't think its wrong of you to be overwhelmed or 'stuck' doing these things if you would prefer not do it- especially since its finals week! Take your time planning- this is the fun part- should be stress free!!

I planned and did all the work for my engagement party. It wasn't too bad though we just wanted something fun to celebrate so we rented out a bowling alley, they catered and had open bar. They did such a cute job decorating and put all our names on the lanes and of course had the black lights and DJ going. It was awesome and then I did little bowling pin cookies with our last name initial on it. I have some pictures in my album.

We threw our own engagement party too. We rented a tent in the backyard and our parents cooked everything. It was such a fun party and had such a great time celebrating with our family and friends. I had no idea it was 'bad' etiquette to throw your own since all our engaged friends threw their own too.

I sometimes wish I knew what was going on, my engagement party was a complete surprise!!! However, if you feel overwhelmed with school, I would address that with your parents. They should understand.

Engagement Party Question

My mom is throwing us an engagement party - I sat with her, FMIL, and FH to make the guest list. My mom is doing mostly all the planning. I sat with her to talk about the food (but she’s a caterer so I trust her) and she asked me what colors I would like things to be. I wrote out all the invites (bc my mom's handwriting isn’t so great) but she stuffed them all.

We threw our own engagement party as well. We wanted to celebrate since we knew it would be a long engagement. It never actually occurred to me that it might be bad etiquette. Technically unless you indicate it on the invitation on purpose nobody knows who paid or who did the bulk of the work planning and I don't think people care lol But if you're stressed talk to your parents. I'm sure they intended all of this to be fun and would understand if you have a lot going on with school.

Engagement Party Question

I am totally stressed! I have just three more finals, and I should be doing better in about a week and I'll have time to think about really enjoying my engagement. For now, though, all I can think about is how much I have to do. (And, clearly I'm not getting any of it done, because I'm here!! :-P) I am excited about it, but I don't have time right now to do much more than stress I guess.

But, I'm glad I got a lot of people who threw their own parties. I have some questions. Mine will be at Westbury Manor on July 5th. Did you send RSVP cards with your invites? I am just having people call my mother... Is that awkward?

And, did anyone have a photographer at theirs? I want to have nice pictures for an album, and we never took 'engagement photos,' but I don't want my parents to have to book an actual photographer for this...

Okay, back to studying!!

Engagement Party Question

My mom put her phone number and email on the invite for RSVP. We didn't do RSVP cards because we wanted to keep it a little more casual. We arnt doing a photographer but I have a few friends who have really nice cameras and are hoping they bring them (knowing them they will)

I made my sister the rsvp, no cards. We didn't use a photographer but we got plenty of pictures from everyone.
