Hey ladies. Our engagement party is in the middle of Jan. and I have a couple of questions. The party is very simple, we're having brunch at a restaurant.
Are you ladies opening gifts at the party (like you would at a shower) or waiting until you get home? I feel awkward opening presents in front of people so I would rather do it at home when we're alone, or is that rude?
Are you making a small registry? We weren't going to but today we had a message on the machine from someone that's attending and they wanted to know where we are registered so now we are trying to decided if we should make a small one with just some things we need.

Re: engagement party questions
We opened gifts at home. We don't live together yet and not sure yet if were going to buy a house or rent so we decide not to register since we have no idea where we will be. It worked out well for us we really didn't get any gifts which is what we were hoping for.

Re: engagement party questions
For our engagement party, we opened gifts at home. You might want to do especially because some people might not bring a gift, so you don't want them to feel bad. My friend just had an engagement party and several people didn't bring a gift.
As for registries, I would try to get to a BBB or Macy's and register for some simple things. If people bring a gift, they like to give something they know you want/like.
Hope that helps!!!

Re: engagement party questions
We opened gifts after the party. Lots of people asked if we were registered anywhere & we weren't at the time as the gifts would go unused for a year & a 1/2 haha.... but people did ask us, so that's up to you!

Re: engagement party questions
Ours is also mid January. We arent registering for anything, and will be opening whatever gifts we get at home. Im hoping for mostly $$ only because we have a bunch of stuff to pay for.. but we will appreciate anything that anyone gives us. Howver, we arent expecting everyone to bring gifts... thats why were opening at home.

Re: engagement party questions
We opened our gifts at home also. We got A LOT of envelopes which is a good thing :) Some people got us some stuff - frame, photo album and such. My friend registered before hers and she got a lot of stuff off the registry - she had to register somewhere else for her shower b/c people bought too many things.

I guess because we didn't register and it was only a month after we got engaged--we got a lot of Bed, Bath & Beyond giftcards-which I hope never expire?... we also got 3 pairs of champagne flutes (haha), 2 cake servers, a friend bought my garter as she knew exactly what I had wanted haha, pretty wedding frames, lots of wine & champagne, Dinner & theatre tickets, MONEY :). Nothing home related as we don't live together yet, but most of this stuff is just sitting in a box for a year and a half now haha

Re: engagement party questions
we opened our gifts at home because it wasn't expected that we were going to get engagement gifts....
but we made it a point NOT to register before our engagement because we really wanted money to help us with the wedding...plus because we were two years out from getting married, i didn't want to pick stuff out that in two years may not be available...

Re: engagement party questions
We just had ours in November, We didn't choose to register because we didn't want people thinking that we were expecting presents but we did have a few people ask us if we did register...
We also didn't open presents at the party, a lot of times you are going to get cash and we didn't want people being upset because some people gave more then others and so on..
hope this helps! :)

I hope the gift cards don't expire either as we did get some!! LOL Maybe I should just go pick stuff out now and leave it in the garage. Shopping is always fun!

Re: engagement party questions
Thanks ladies. I didn't want to open the gifts there because we don't expect everyone to give us gifts, just wanted to make sure are guests didn't expect us to sit there and open them up. We already have a house so we decided to register for a couple of little things we need now but aren't telling anyone unless they ask.
