Re: Engagement Party Questions!
If that doesn't work out and you want to keep it low key maybe you can see if another family member could offer their house. We had our e-party at my DH Aunt's house which is gorgeous (she offered). We made it very elegant and all dressed up but you can make it however you want.

Engagement Party Questions!
Not sure how much it is in your area, but I inquired about a space (civic center) in Queens as well and it was $500.00 to rent the space with chairs/tables. Anyway we ended up having it in my FH's parents house and it was low key but still tons of fun

Re: Engagement Party Questions!
I'd say house/backyard party/bbq is the way to go even if it is small, or at someone else's home with a bigger yard. You're lucky its summer!
Save the money now you'll need it later. Lots more celebrating and little things to get later

That is awesome! We had our party at my sister condo, so we catered from some things from Iavarone Brothers(http://www.ibfoods.com/). The best part about a low key engagement party is that you can also prepare the food yourself to save money. My mom made penne vodka and sausage and peppers, which were 80+ dollars if it would have been catered.
