Engagement Party Registry

Engagement Party Registry

Hey Ladies-

Looking for some feedback from you...FH and I have decide NOT to register for our upcoming engagement party this Spring. Honestly speaking, we're hoping for the cash to help alleviate some wedding expenses. Some friends have encouraged us to do this, while others have warned we made just wind up getting random gifts. I hate to sound so greedy, but what do you all think?

Also, since we already live together, there isn't a lot more we need from a registry standpoint that the Bridal shower couldn't cover. Thoughts?

i think you should register for some items for your engagement party. When we met with the woman at Macy's yesterday, she advised us to register for candles and picture frames, as someone will inevitably get them for us, even if we don't register for them. I think if you register for a couple of items, then you are good. Others will definitely give you cash, and this way you will get stuff you actually want!!

Re: Engagement Party Registry

I registered six days after getting engaged because two hours after getting engaged, my FMIL said 'You have to register, everyone wants to know where you are registered!' - seriously!

I hear you - we didn't actively tell people we were registered and asked our moms to tell people to give us $$ (like family and close friends that they feel comfortable saying that to).

But we have gotten a lot of gifts from people who are NOT invited to the party and the registry has been good - even tho some have elected NOT to buy us what is on our registry, they were able to see our tastes and match it up with something that they WANT to give.

This just happened this weekend - a woman gave us a beautiful crystal ice bucket... not on my registry...but it will be gorgeous with glasses... she was able to match it up.

Another woman got us beautiful waterford bowls. I would NEVER had registered for them because they were expensive, but she saw my tastes and matched it up.

I would register for a few things in many different brackets but be low-keyed about it. People who didn't know about my registry and got me gifts ended up getting weird things from Fortunoff's.......

As bad as this sounds, you can always take things back and get credits - you will def. need to 'complete' stuff later on and that will only help.

Whew, this was long!

We registered because everyone kept asking us where we were registered. At least this way if someone is going to get a gift, we'll get somethng we want.
If a lot of the things are gone, we'll do some kind of theme shower.

I would register for a couple of things - people that want to give you money will still give you money. Those that want to give you a tangible gift will atleast be able to pick something out that you want and selected instead of giving you something random that they like or think you'll like.
