Hey ladies... So we are all set for your engagement party memorial day weekend. We decided to put our wedding website on the invite which will then direct people to our registry. That way people who would like to give/bring gifts have the option to look at our registry...
Anyway...just wondering...I am thinking that we aren't going to have a full blown registry including our china, etc. but just a few things here and there...maybe linens, tablecloths, napkins, candles, glasses, entertaining platters, and more accessory type stuff. It will keep us sane and I also don't want to take away from when the bridal shower takes place and the wedding which don't take place until next year....
Any thoughts on this?

Re: Engagement Party Registry
Isn't the registry for the shower if you have one? I dunno I'm not registering at all and I read someplace that people aren't even required to give gifts at an engagment party. I rather have money but that's just me. I would feel akward including a registery for an engagement party...

Re: Engagement Party Registry
We had our registries complete in time for our e-party.
Many people bought things off the registries, others gave us money. I think it's a good idea to at least have SOME things on the registry for the e-party in case people want to buy you gifts instead of giving cash. Also, some people may want to buy you something small, like coasters or something AND give you cash.
This way people have options.

i felt the same way so i didn't register before my e-party...everything i read about ettiquette said not to register for the e-party...i didnt necessarily expect cash but thought the gifts people would bring would be like frames, crystal wear, serving knifes etc..

Re: Engagement Party Registry
I didn't register for the engagement party b/c I didn't want people to feel like they had to bring a gift. And about 75% of people who did bring something brought money, which was great for us.
So I guess its up to you how complete you want to have it....I do agree it takes away from the bridal shower though.

Re: Engagement Party Registry
we didnt register for our eparty...if someone wanted to buy us an item they knew what we liked/needed and bought it for us, mostly everyone gave cash though. I personally find it a bit tacky though to ask for gifts like that at an engagement party...I feel registries are for the shower and for the BM's/parents to let guests know.

Re: Engagement Party Registry
I think you definately should register prior to the E-party. I have been to a few E-parties for friends and I had the gift shipped to their desired location prior to the event, so I didnt have to carry anything with me that day! It is more of a 'Congratulations on your engagement gift' and less of a gift just because you are having a party. People will most likely want to buy you something anyway since you just got engaged and now they will know what you want.
I am doing the same thing as you are -- including our wedding website on the invitations. (And for the older folks, we will include the registry cards). Register for as much or as little as you wish. You totally deserve it!
HTH!

Re: Engagement Party Registry
i didnt register because i wanted money (lol) but if i were u i would register and maybe not put it on the invitation...then if someone wnats to get you a present instead of money they will ask someone close to u if u r registered and the answer will be yes!!!!!

Re: Engagement Party Registry
Wow...so its basically 50/50...
I know traditionally people aren't required to bring a gift to an engagement party but for the most part people do anyway. I figured why not give that option of getting something we want/need ... We plan on just putting a few things and waiting for the rest of the stuff when the shower/wedding get closer. Def not like china and the bigger more traditional stuff.
As far as including it on the invitiation, I just put 'please visit our wedding website at.....' on the back of the invite. If they want to look to see if we have a registry, they can. Otherwise it gets people on the site to see it and sign out guest book.
Thanks for the input!!! :) It is always great to see both sides. I asked some people in person and got both sides, too.

ITA...every eparty we went to, we gave money as a gift. I think it really helps. Besides, ,FH and I have lived together a while now....we have a lot of things. I may have to do a Honeymoon Registry.

Re: Engagement Party Registry
i personally did not complete a registry (still dont have one) for my e party because i would have no where to store anything! but i look forward to receiving gifts off my registry for my shower.. our families were very generous though with cash gifts and it helped a lot with payments and our wedding savings account.

Re: Engagement Party Registry
I will wait to register for my shower. I don't want people to feel like they have to get me something for e-party and shower and wedding. I feel like its too much. JMO though

Re: Engagement Party Registry
I will probably register for a few small things, but I won't include it on the invite. If people want to bring something they can give $$ or ask if we are registered...
