Hi ladies, I am wondering what your thoughts are on registering for an engagement party? I have been told that it would be a good idea since some people will bring gifts, but im wondering if its taboo to include that in the invitiation? Idk am I looking too much into this?

Re: engagement party registry?
for the engagement party, you can include the registry info if your parents are hosting it (because in a way, they are making the invitations and asking for gifts for you)
i think it definitely helps and that you should create one. just do it online, if you're strapped for time

Re: engagement party registry?
I registered only because some people were asking. I told my mom only to tell the people that ask that I am registered. Right now we live in a small apartment so I cant take that many gifts, money would be alot more useful

Re: engagement party registry?
My eparty is tomorrow. I've always given cash at e-parties so we did not include any registry info on the invites. But then a few friends began inquiring about where we were registered so I registered at Macys for my Lenox china, some toasting flutes, frames, stemware, and other crystal gifts. I did not put bedding, cookware, etc bc we are saving that stuff for the shower. I told only the people who asked about the registry (we could use the cash more right now over gifts LOL). I stalked my registry and honestly almost everything is gone! So I guess it's good to put a few nice items on there in case you have people who want to give you a gift. It's better than getting something you don't want!

IMO registering is for a shower. People have been hounding me since I got engaged where I was registering and I said I dont intend to do it. Only gonna register for the shower. I honestly didnt want gifts(sorry if that sounds tacky) If you dont register you'll be more likely to get money. And thats what I wanted. I know the gifts will be given for the shower, so money would be more needed/useful at this point. My FIL's threw us a mini (family only) engagment party last sat and everyone gave money. So basicilly you just need to decide. Would you rather money or gifts???

Re: engagement party registry?
We registered right after getting engaged because people already wanted to know what we needed etc. so we were registered like 6 months before our engagement party and it worked out really well. DH and I moved in together about 2 weeks before our party and had nothing, but then we had the party and had so many things that we needed (dishes, pots, bakeware, etc.). I would definitely do it.

Lots of people will buy gifts for your engagement party. So I think it's a good idea to register. We did, but we just relied on word of mouth instead of including it in the invite. Most people either found it online or asked our parents and it worked out fine. We weren't having the party to get gifts, but since it's going to happen you may as well get the things you want and need!

I would do a registry. Most people will pob. give cash, but some people will want to give gifts, and some people send stuff immediately and bought me stuff I really did not want because there was no registry

Re: engagement party registry?
For every engagement party that I have ever been to, there has been a registry notice in the invitation. I think it's great because guests have a choice of giving cash or a gift that the couple actually wants. I doubt anyone would want to show up to your e party empty handed. I plan on registering before my e party!!!!

Why? We got them as engagement presents, not as wedding presents. Besides, it's just a superstition and I was sick of using paper plates for everything.

yeah but thats like using your showere gifts before you're married. They're given to you for after you start your life together as a married couple. I know its superstition, but I'd feel like I'd be jinxing myself. Also, GOD FOR BIT it ever broke up, you have to replace that(not you per-say. Anyone in general)

It was nice to have things like a toaster and be able to finally cook with a frying pan. But to each their own then.
