Engagement Party...Need some help....

Is there anything special I need to provide at the e-party?Also my mom booked it for Nov 30 and we are getting married in September 04. Does anyone think that is too late for an e-party. A girl at work said she thoght it was like we were asking for 2 gifts and was not a good thing to do!

no thats not too late for an e party.... don't invite the girl you work with so she won't feel 'obligated' to get you a gift! LOL gifts aren't manditory at these things anyway!

small favors. votives maybe...

For your favors maybe have a candy bar wrapper made (plenty on ebay). You can put your wed date on it so it can double as a STD.

A small favor is a good idea. Do not invite that girl to your e-party.

That is one yr in advance... perfect timing... As for a favor, I did small 2x3 frames that had 3 different styles...one with toasting glasses, one with bride & groom, the third with hearts... we put our E-pic in each and wrapped them in nice celephan baggies for our guest. Everyone loved them. The frames only cost 99 cents each at Crazy Als in Commack.

we are have our e-party 2 weeks from tomorrow. (timing reasons we had to do it that late in the year)

We are giving out these ivory love dove (facing eachother) trinket porceline boxes. I thought they were pretty way to say thank you. I wrapped then in pink & ivory tulle and attached personalized ribbon.

I will have a picture after the party.

We are not doing anything fancy or insane. Just a fun way to gather family together.

An engagement party is nice. Not for any reason, but it gets the families to meet eachother.

As for gift giving: I recently hosted an e-party for my son. My family were the only ones that brought them gifts and gave them money. I've been wondering what do these people do if their invited to a b'day party, do they bring something? E-parties are a good starter for the future mr and mrs. I don't excuse the fact the people say 'i didn't know i was supposed to bring a gift' or 'whats an egagment party for'

You do what you feel is right and don't listen to others negitive attitudes. You do whats right for you and what you want. After all, its your day!!!

good luck

Shana,

Don't feel like that, I know alot of brides who didn't have an eparty.

We hosted our own eparty at our house. Basically we threw ourselves the party. Do the same! For us it was so much fun!!! But we did it ourselves and it was worth it!

we are having one in 2 weeks. We wanted to keep it simple, but if I could have done it over again, it would have been for ONLY family. NO 'friends'

Re: Engagement Party...Need some help....

Thanks all for your advice. Believe me I didn't want one to begin with due to $$$ reasons for my parents. But my parents are thick-headed. I tried doing something simple in a restaurant but believe it or not the hall Russo's was cheaper and offered more!. The only problem now is whether I sould get some type of music? any ideas????

we are using a dj, just music. no lights or showy stuff.

I am actually having a brunch at Russo's for my engagement party. They do offer a lot and the price is not bad at all. As for music, we hired a Harpist for the 1st three hours of the affair. We didn't want to have a party with loud music. We want it to be intimate and social. Afterall, in my opinion, an engagment party is meant for families and friends of the bride and groom to meet. If you are interested in hiring a harpist, let me know. The person who I am using is affordable.

Good Luck!!

I would think anywhere up to six months before would be okay. We had little candles from Oriental Trading Co. for our favors 12 for $6, i think.

BTW, we had family and friends in the bridal party only!

Re: Engagement Party...Need some help....

We had a small engagement party with 45 people in a private room in a restaurant in Astoria. We had a tasting menu and it was absolutely fantastic. We just had music playing in the backround which was nice since it gave everyone the opportunity to talk and get to know each other. As far as favors, we had small frames for each guest which told them where to sit (bought for 99 cents each) and we gave each couple two pear candles in a clear box with a tag that said 'a perfect pair'.

It is never too late for an engagement party - its up to you to have it when it fits into your schedule and when you have time to plan it. Good luck!

Re: Engagement Party...Need some help....

At my engagement party I gave out homemade magnets with love wuotes on them. At the time I wasn't sure of the wedding date, but if you know the date I would give out save-the-dates instead.

My sister gave out candles as her favor for her engagement party.
