Engagement Photo Shoot?

Heres the deal, we are using Glemnar Studios in Roslyn for photography, and the package we signed includes an engagement photo shoot. At the time they told me I could have it outside. However, the only time they do the photos is Sat morning and Wed-Thurs night (after its dark-no outside photos). FH works Saturdays-and when i called, I asked if there was any other day I could have the shoot outside and they said no. Is this something that I should push for? Is it a big deal if the pics are taken in the studio? I really wanted them outside, but I know FH will freak if he has to go into work late, and will be impatient and rushing if we try to do it then (not good for pics). I feel like if I am spending all this money, and willing to come in during the week to do this, they should be a bit more accomadating. Opinions? Brutal honesty welcomed thanks.

Re: Engagement Photo Shoot?

Personally, I hate studio photos so this would be a big deal to me.

I definitely think that the studio should try to accomadate you. You are spending a ton on photos - the least they could do is be a little more open in terms of time. Can't they do it Thurs/Fri afternoon?

My engagement photos took less than 1/2 hour so they should be able to squeeze you in somewhere.

Re: Engagement Photo Shoot?

If you really want them outside, hold out until they do it for you. I'm sure if you arrange it well in advance they can work something out.

Re: Engagement Photo Shoot?

I definitely hate indoors studio. When our photographer told us we can either go to a beach or to the park I was elated. It took less than an hour. I think even if you do not get the photographer who will shoot your day, they must have someone else that they can send. Your circumstance does not allow you to fit in to their schedule so they should work with you. Speak up you are spending big bucks here..this is not a booth at the mall pix we are talking about here

ALl the best

Re: Engagement Photo Shoot?

I had my engagement photos taken by Glenmar in their studio and they came out fabulous. I posted a couple of pics a couple of weeks ago. If you do a search, you should be able to find them.

They came out really well. I didn't really care where the pictures were taken. I actually preferred them to be inside.

Re: Engagement Photo Shoot?

Karen, I did a search but cannot find them. Is there any way that you can bump the thread?

Maybe I am being picky, but I really wanted them to take the pics outside so that I can really get a feel for the phiotographers work. Since most wedding photos are taken outside, I feel like I need to see the kind of photos he takes outside to really know his work.

Ugh, I have to call them back but I HATE confrontation. However, this is very important to me, and I have a year before my wedding-so they should work w. me, or I will find someone else to photograph our wedding. How is it that I can be so self-assured at work, but pushing these vendors makes me nauseated? Wish me luck, I will let you know what happens!

Re: Engagement Photo Shoot?

I would try to push them, but if that is what they do what can you do about it? My place only does pictures on certain days - so I basically had to take a day off to get them done!

Personally I love the outdoors ones but you are limited by what the stores policy is. I don't think there is anything wrong with studio pictures...I have seen many done that way and they are just as nice.

Also, what are you using the pictures for? That may be a factor in your decision on how important these pictures are. I know the reason I took mine is they were included in my package and I figured it would help me establish a rapport with my photographer before the big day. Other than that, they are just more pictures of me and my FI (we have albums of pictures of the two of us!).

Re: Engagement Photo Shoot?

OK, well I summoned my courage and called back, let them know that I wanted to take the pics outside. They were not too happy, but did honor my request, although it will not be with the photographer who is doing my wedding. While I am there, I will take another look at his albums as well, to remind me why FH and I booked on the spot-I know their work was beautiful, I just need a mental refresher

I want to use the pics for our save the dates and programs, so it is important to me that they are done the way that I prefer. IMO, if they are a part of my package, then I am paying for them, so the studio should honor my request.

The best thing I did was have them write everything (including engagement shoot) on my contract. When I told them I had it on my contract (with no mention of a studio only photo shoot), they agreed to take the pics outside. Ugh, what a hassle. For all this, they had better come out nice. I will let you ladies know when we receive them!

Re: Engagement Photo Shoot?

I see you already worked things out, but I just wanted to say we used Glenmar and because our engagement pictures were taken in March and it really wasn't outdoor weather, we took them inside in their studios. They came out wonderful and we couldn't have been more happy with them. To us, it didn't matter. We have great pictures of us, and that's what matters.

Good Luck with your outdoor photo shoot!!
