Can anyone recommend any places in the city to take engagement pictures? Preferably places that don't require a permit or charge a fee. We love the idea of Grand Central, but I know you need a permit. Any suggestions would be great!

If you just want a view of the city in the background check out Brooklyn Bridge Park. That's where we did ours, we got great shots of the freedom tower being constructed.

We did ours in Dumbo Brooklyn...It was my fh idea and I am so happy I listened to him. Loved it there!

dumbo, battery park, staten island ferry (it's free and you get to go on the water and by the statue of liberty), the highline, bryant park, brooklyn bridge park

most places you can kinda get around-just say a friend is taking pics of you

We did ours in South Street Seaport because we frequent that area a lot...If you don't mind the crowd it's a great place for pics definitely.
We did ours in Central Park, but Union Square, Madison Square Park, and Washington Square Park are really beautiful locations too. (So is the battery, or Times Square, or really any where that you like to go and feel comfortable!)

we did ours in Madison Square Park, and around that neighborhood(on 34th and 2dn, 30th and 2dn. we chose this because it is the neighborhood we live in. we did a few in Grand Central. you don't need a permit for GC. you do for Bryant Park and NYPL (schwartsman building)- they are pretty strict. we also went into our local market and took some pics. just find places that feel good to you. the pics are in my albums

The Highline is amazing. If you want a view of downtown manhattan, go to Liberty State Park. There's a restaurant there called the liberty house -if you go on their website you'll see the views. There's a boardwalk and should be free to walk on the boardwalk. You might have to pay for parking (~$5)

stone street!!!! see if you can google to find images but its so adorable and near the seaport. i wanted to take mine here but we couldnt time it right. the perfect time would be in the fall bc during the summer months they have lots of tables out for all the bars/restaurants on the block.

I get a email newsletter from our wedding photographer and he was just doing an engagement photo give away on his site and he had photos from Grand Central and Highline and I think Dumbo too. He's pretty good! Don't know if he's still doing the giveaway but his site is worth checking out http://www.gemasana.com
