Engagement ring and work woes

So as many of you know, i'm an emergency room physican in the Bronx...in a 'not-so-nice' area either. My FH would rather me not wear my engagement ring to work...and i completely agree, More so cause i have to wear and change gloves a million times a day and i'm scared i'll end up throwing away the ring inside of a glove and not ever notice.

Basically it mades me sad that i waited for 5 years to get my ring....i LOVE it and wanna wear it, but i can't Anyone else in the same perdicament. I am not going to wear it to work cause i treasure it too much, but it still makes me sad.

i totally understand where you are coming from... luckily i can wear my ring to work but i would hate it if i couldnt...

Why dont you get yourseld a fake one that looks like it.. at least you can have something on your finger.....

I never even thought of that!!!!! The thing i really hate is just not feeling SOMETHIGN on that finger! I should just go to Claires or some cheapo shop and get a $10 ring...AWESOME. I love you!!!!

I also do not wear my ring as much as I would like... I work in a bank so or obvious reasons I do not want to flash my rock lol

Also my school is not in a great area and I get out late soo I dont ever wear it there..

The fake ring is a great idea that I am also considering..

Im finally getting insurance in about a week but that doesnt mean I would feel any better losing it!

I totally understand...my FH offered to hire me an armed guard to travel the subways of Manhattan to and from work with me!

haha, will you share your guard to walk me to and from my car in our parking lot.....maybe also let me know that the ring is still on my finger after i throw away gloves every 5 seconds lol.

NO problem!!!! at least youll have somehting so you dont feel naked... when i had to give my ring to the jewler to get fixed for a week ... i put my tiny a** promise ring from 8 years ago on just so i had somehting on that finger....

i know people who have put it on a chain around their neck, under their scrubs. That way, they were able to wear it at work, it wouldn't cut through or get caught in the gloves, and it kept it out of sight

OMG do i have a story about the promise ring that used to be on my finger!!

It was about 2 years ago and i was doing my surgical rotation at the same hospital that i'm at now and when your in the OR you can't wear ANY jewlery...so i used to keep my promise ring in my white coat pocket. One day i'm with my cowoker and were going to get our coats and go home after a long day....when OMG MY RING IS GONE! I flipped out, i thought someone stole it and i was in tears and livid at the same time. Me and another intern searched all over....with no luck. I go home...driving and crying at the same time and call my FH....while talking he suggested i called the coworker who i was with that day and maybe she had the ring or knew where it was. I call her...and i must have put the ring in her pocket instead of mine...cause thank god SHE HAD IT!

I never wore my ring to work ever again!

I would totally get a fake ring! i am going to do that for my Honey moon. dont be sad, you dont want to lose it!

I got engaged in March and then in May we went to Mexico City and I wasn't 'allowed' to wear my ring...or any jewelry for that matter. Then we went to Europe for 2 weeks in May and same story. I waited 2 1/2 yrs to get me ring and then I couldn't wear it! I would def get a fake ring. That's what I'll do for the honeymoon too. My fiance also makes me turn my ring around every time we are walking around the city at night.....better safe than sorry, rt?

Hah. I wear my ring all the time, though I probably shouldn't. I'm doing a phd in organic chemistry, so I wear gloves all the time and work with lots of nasty chemicals. Gold, platinum, and palladium can all catalyze my reactions. I always figured I'd take my ring off when I got to lab each morning and put it on a necklace. But FH got the ring set low so that it fits under my gloves and he FREAKS OUT whenever I take it off. He says that if I accidentally dissolve the ring, we'll get it re-set.

I'm a physician assistant. I also am constantly changing gloves and at first I was worried, but not anymore. Even when I scrub into the or I put it on my necklace. Its not a big deal really, just get it insured just incase, ya know?
