Re: engagement ring insurance
you have to get your ring appraised first - any jeweler should be able to do this - I went to Jewelry Judge by Roosevelt Field. They'll give you the appraisal paperwork and then you send that to your insurance company (jewelers mutual is one company). Your premium price is based on what the ring appraised for.

Yea what she said but you have to get the appraisl from the jeweler first. FFIL is an insurance guy so he did all the leg work for us - so just your insurance company.

I have mine insured as a rider to my parent's hoemowner's insurance, since i don't own a house/apt/car. i think you can get it as a rider under any kind of insurance you currently have.

Re: engagement ring insurance
you should get an appraisal done on the ring first. you can go through jewelers mutual or if you already have a policy somewhere else, like state farm or allstate, you can use them. they are usually cheaper. mine is thru state farm
