Engagement Ring Insurance
I don't know anything about how to do this. I can add it to my renter's insurance policy but do you have to get it appraised? if so are there restrictions of certain places I would have to go or special jewelers? And how much does it cost to get appraised?

FH insured mine through Jeweler's Mutual because it covered more than the renter's insurance did. He definitely needed the appraisal- the jeweler he purchased the ring from provided it and I'm not positive, but I think he may have needed the GIA cert, too.

Re: Engagement Ring Insurance
FH got mine appraised through the jeweler. He did not put it through homeowners insurance because separately more is covered. it is very cheap ... something like $40 for the year!it's my understanding that the appraisal was free.

FH had the jeweler appraise mine then went to State Farm (we have our renters insurance through them) & I believe it is $200ish for the yr. I think it is based on what your ring is appraised for & how much coverage you need. Def piece of mind!

I got mine appraised actually in Canada and added it to my renters insurance. They just asked me to fax them a copy of the appraisal. That's it. It was pretty simply. My renters insurance is through MetLife.

My appraisal came from the jeweler where we purchased all our rings. We both live at home so I have my ring insured under a perfect circle and then we will place it under our home owners when we purchase something! I needed my appraisal and pictures and pay 75 a year!

I used Jeweler's Mutual since it covered more then my homeowner's policy did. All I needed was to send them my ring appraisal.

Exactly this!

This! FH put it on his State Farm renters insurance as well. He is getting full coverage, which we wanted since he gave me his great grandmother's rock. The appraisal was free and was arranged by the jewelers where he got the setting.
