Engagement ring question

Engagement ring question

My e-ring was originally too big so I had it sized down from 6.5 to 5.5. FH bought it from Blue Nile so we had to ship it back but I had confirmed my size with 3 local jewelers just to make sure I'm not a 5 or a 6 but a 5.5

The ring fits much better but it still moves a bit on my finger. A size 5 would be way too small. It would be very tight in the summer and I'd be scared to gain a pound for fear of having to have it taken out.

I heard alot about these sizing balls. Does anyone know how much they cost? What would happen if I have them put in every winter and taken out every summer? Would it ruin the ring to constantly do that?

Re: Engagement ring question

im getting that done to my ring since i dont want to cut it, but my jeweler isnt charging me anything...

honestly if you have bigger joints that your ring will move once it gets over the joint since the ring itslef need to be big enough to pass over the joint, so you dont want to make it smaller if this is the case.... also youre fingers well throughout the day (esp at night) and when you drink etc so pay attention to how the ring fits you then as well cuz if you size it down it will seriously hurt your finger when this happens, honeslty most rings move a little, if you feel like its falling off though then i would get the ball things put on, but i wouldnt recommend getting them put in and taken out conitnuously

I had the same issue with a ring. I had the shots put into it a few years ago. I don't remember the cost, but it couldn't have been more than $30-$40. I wear the ring everyday and although my fingers do tend to swell a bit in the heat and humidity, I've never had to have the shots removed.

ETA: Just a word of caution. Whatever jeweler you use, be sure that the ring never leaves your sight!

A jeweler could also size it down to 5.25.

Re: Engagement ring question

My FH had my ring custom made.. kinda
He bought the centerstone on ebay and the setting at tri-county and from there had it changed (it was 2-toned, so he had it dipped, he had extra diamonds put in and he added the centerstone and had it lowered as it was too high). It's a standard size 7 and WAY too big.
I don't want to cut mine either, because once we try to have kids I want to wear it even while being fat from having a baby in me
so I'm having the balls added, I live right by the new tanger mall in deer park so we went to Ultra Diamonds and the store manager offered to do mine for $35.00 including cleanings whenever I want.
They are amazing there. I just haven't had the time to go there while their jeweler is there.
I might also have them make my wedding band.

Same problem.
I am a 4 1/2..it was kinda big but my joint was bigger...
4 is like way to small.
So I had balls put in and I love it.
Mine still turns to side sometimes as it's top heavy, it's very common.

FH originally bought my ring at a size 4.5. Well, it was HUGE! I went to the jeweler and my ring finger is actually a 3.5 But we sized it to a 3.75 so that it's not too tight in the summer.

Honestly if it just moves a little, but isn't big enough that it'll fall off, I'd leave it be. If you're still concerned about it falling off, then I'd recommend either going another 1/4 size down or getting a ring guard.

Thanks everyone.. I noticed that if I put my ring on as soon as i wake up, i have to push it on b/c my hands get warm when I sleep. (And this is in March, so you can imagine what it will be like in the summer).

Maybe I'll just look into getting those clear ring guards and I'll only put them on the ring when it would make it more comfortable (december - march i guess).

Re: Engagement ring question

FH got me a 6.25 but it was big. so we got two little balls put in and now its a 6. it was $35. the best thing is that it never swirls around, becuase the balls keep it in one position. i am so happy w them! best decision ever!

only bad thing -- we needed to send it out b/c found a diamond loose too...so now we need to go have it re-appraised. it better be the same stuff!!!! ooooo!!!!

Re: Engagement ring question

i would say get the balls because they're great and you cant see them unless you actually take the ring off.

my finger was swollen when i got it sized (didnt realize) so when FH bought me my ering, it was about 1 size too small. im glad to know i can remove the balls if i ever gain weight or get prego!
