Engagement rings

Engagement rings

I'm thinking about not getting one. We have SO much to save for as is, does an engagement ring really matter? We could use that 8K-10K towards a nicer wedding...

would you guys think it's wierd to not have an e-ring?

No it is not weird. A lot of people get married without one. It does not make a difference IMHO.

8-10K? that's a LOT for an e-ring IMO..FH only spent, not even 2K on mine..but personally i don't think its weird not to have an e-ring..especially if the money is just going to go towards making your wedding even more wonderful..besides if you start getting the urge for a ring...he can always get you one later on..like an anniversary

Re: Engagement rings

I dont think an engagement ring is important. Look at the Europeans- they buy their wedding bands when they get engaged and wear them on their left hand and when its time to get married they switch it over to the right! I mean I know this is America and the 'custom' is different but to be honest with you- more and more ladies are now not getting e-rings bc weddings are sooooo expensive!!!
I agree with Kamille though- you could always get a ring for your anniversary if you do decide you really want one! AND that money will be spent well for your fabulous wedding!!!

Me too- my parent's got married in 1974 with a 'single band ceremony'

And you are right, in Europe, a usual engagemtn ring is 2 weeks salary rather than the US 2 months..

It's not weird....you could even get a ring for under $1,000 if you wanted to....doesn't have to be a diamond.

I agree, you don't need an engagement ring. As long as you know that this man is the one for you, and that you love each other very much. The wedding band will make up for it, thats what counts the most!

I think you should do whatever you want to do. If you feel it is not important to have an engagement ring than it is perfectly ok not to have one. It's what works for the two of you

Re: Engagement rings

Thanks everyone.

I'm finding this whole process TOO overwhelming!!!
I think we'll hold off on the e-ring and we can always change our minds later.

Is it me or is the whole wedding industry totally money-sucking?? THe whole process is SOO

Re: Engagement rings

it's DEFINITELY money sucking.

I say skip the e-ring and just purchase a really nice w-band - maybe diamond eternity?

As a lot of women get older, have kids, etc... they stop wearing their e-rings, and just wear their bands. I think I would get a fancy one (diamonds) and a plain one, for everyday wear.

There are two schools of thought here. One is if you don't get the ring now, you never will, then comes the house and kids and money will be put towards other things.

I would put the money toward your future if you decide not to go with one not just the one day and a party. Also engagement rings don't have to cost 8-10K.

For me...

I would rather have a ring that last forever, then something else to add to the wedding that will last for 5 hours...ie- Flowers... get your ring i/o doing flowers, there are other creative things to do for centerpieces.

JMO...

Also as Blu-ize said, not all rings cost that much...

Edited post just to say... I don't think its weird though... Lots of people just wear there wedding bands.

So I guess I'll order one soon.
