I convinced my FH not to buy me an expensive ring and he didn't. We've been engaged a while though and I sort of want a different ring. The one I have keeps loosing stones. I'm tired of going into the city to have it fixed.
Even though he only spent a few hundred, he deff got ripped off.
I don't know what to do. If I change the ring now, i'm scared i'll buy another ring i won't be happy with. If i wait til after the wedding, I'll get a much nicer one.
#1 what would you do? #2- where would you go on long island for an e-ring?

Re: Engagement rings....
Sorry about your ring.
My FH bought mine online. He got a great deal -www.whiteflash.com
Its gorgeous and the appraisal matched everything they said. Its something to consider, plus you dont pay tax.

I would def go with someone who knows someone and not with a store. The person who did my rings is retired now. We were his last customers or I would give you his name too.

Re: Engagement rings....
You should go down to the dimond district and shop around for what you want. Try the karat shop in LI too. FH got my ring from his private jewler..he's in the city if you want more details FM me and I will get you all his info. He may even agree to meet you on LI and bring a selection for you to chose from.
If you feel like coming into Manhattan, I highly recommend Shenoa & Co. in the diamond district. My fh got my ring from them and they were great to work with. They've been around for a while - my best friend and her parents (who are total diamond aficionados) have been dealing with them for over 20 years, so it's not like they're your run of the mill 'sheisty jewelers.' What I did was looked at their ebay store (seller id shenoa_and_co), got a feel for what I liked, then set up an appointment with them in their store. Definitely check out their ebay items, and fyi, they can do even better on prices if you go in and haggle with them! Feel free to fm me if you have any questions! Good luck!!

Re: Engagement rings....
Well....its a tough situation.
I might wait till after the wedding. Honestly, its just material, just a thing, and right now, use the money to save for the wedding. Afterwards, I would go to someone small and reputable, or like use chrissyandvin's guy. Referals are always best. And then maybe after you get it just get the ring blessed!
Good luck!

Re: Engagement rings....
ugh! Sorry to hear that my FH got my diamond wholesale through the jeweler his mom used to work for, and the setting was made in europe... He got it for 1/2 it's worth. Unfortunately, this jeweler JUST sold the store. But the store is called Golden Grams in Oceanside. They can special order your ring however you want it.

I'd wait until after the wedding... it's probably best to save a little money until you're really sure what you want.

Re: Engagement rings....
the store my fh bought my ring from is in manhatten and they are reputable. I guess it's just this specific ring.
The guy said it was worth $1200- fh paid about $400. It is simple and it is beautiful, but one of the stones keeps falling out.
Like yous said, I'd rather put any extra money towards the wedding right now!

Re: Engagement rings....
Why not put the money toward getting a really nice wedding band...since you'll be married before you know it! I bet in a few years most of us will have the e-rings in the safe deposit box...haha.
I had a great jeweler in the city...got me e-ring setting & wedding band from him...he has stuff in all price ranges...
My Aunt is a Jeweler at 'Elegant Jewelry' in Attia Flea Market in Sayville. Everything I own is from there. My FH got a good deal on my ring and it appraised for about 4K more than he paid for it... The place has a lot of original designs and overall their pieces are fabulous!!! FM me if you want the #

Re: Engagement rings....
i don't know if this would be the best option for you, but you could go to a jeweler and have a ring custom made, but poured with a cheaper metal like silver and keep the mold. then, after the wedding you can have a nicer metal poured (like gold or platnum) and reset the diamond. doing it this way also gives you the option of getting the setting perfect for your stone and getting a design more fitted for you.
if you look into some art schools, like pratt in brooklyn (shamless plug) or another one with a jewelry design major, you can probably get designs for cheap and use their connections for labor (for most students, they'll carve the wax original, but bring it somewhere to be molded/poured and set. if you ask, they can bring it somewhere else to have the wax made too. then you're getting quality, experienced work you can trust, but still getting an original design that would sell for a lot more.)
