Engagement Stories

With all the chaos of planning the 'perfect wedding' it's easy to forget about what's really important. Before the caterers, before the bands and the dresses, before the photographers...there was just us. The day Joe proposed my life changed. My first thought was not about the big event, it was about me and him and our future. Our life together, forever. Although it was the most memorable night of my life, I haven't given it much thought until last night when I was on the computer posting several messages about the wedding plans and he was just laying next to me, waiting patiently for me to spend some time with him. So, if anyone wants to share the story of the 'REAL first day of the rest of your life together' please do... I'm sure I'm not the only romantic out there that lives for a good love story!

Engagement Stories

Another great thread here... My FH and I were dating for 5 years. I was sooooooo ready to get engaged - he just took a little longer to get over the big FOC (fear of commitment!)Anyway, he threw me an AWESOME 30th surprise party in April (I was completely floored). About two hours into the party he said lets have the cake. Everyone went downstairs and started singing happy birthday, and I noticed he wasn't in the room. I kept saying 'Wait, we can't sing until Chris is here' but they kept going. Then I saw Chris coming down the stairs with another cake in his hand. He put the cake down in front of me and it read 'WILL YOU MARRY ME'. I just looked at him (in front of about 30 people) and said 'I'm the happiest girl in the world'. It was the best, most memorable day in my life!! Good luck everyone!

Engagement Stories

This is such a great idea...It really puts things into perspective right now...(52 days to go!) Well, we went on a cruise with a bunch of our friends and he arranged for me to get picked to go on stage at the welcome aboard show on the first night. so there i was on stage in front of 1500 people and the cruise director was making fun of my New York accent and than he proceeded to ask why i'm not married yet!!! so i said it's not up to me...so he called dave on the stage gave him a little heckling and than the next thing i knew he was at the center of the stage on his knee with the whole place going crazy! He was talking into the mic but you couldn't even hear him! I blurted out a yes in between my tears and than the embarassment kicked in when i realized that the ships tv taped it and was going to play it non-stop for the next 2 days! I think everyone on the ship stopped us to see the ring!!! I'll never forget the smile that was plastered on my face the entire vacation!!!

Engagement Stories,,In Front of my Class!!!(long)

I was so proud and happy with the day that Joe proposed to me. He is not a very public person and the way that he did it shocked me. I am a High School Spanish teacher and he came to my school and gave a student in the hallway a dozen roses to bring to me to my class. The student gave it to me and told me to read the card and it said will you marry me..but in Spanish. Then I ran out to the hall and he was out there. He came into the classroom and got down on one knee and asked me in front of the whole class. I was screaming and my class was screaming and all the people were coming out into the hallway to see what happened and it was so great! I am so lucky to have such a great story to tell our future children and grandchildren. I am so lucky in general. I cannot wait until the wedding to start the rest of our lives together. Sorry to be so corny but it is true!!! Thanks for letting me share that it put a big smile on my face to relive it again! Good luck to all!

They really are great stories *NM*

I knew that I was going to get engaged, I just wasnt sure when he was going to do it. It was his birthday on April 24th, so that weekend I gave him his gifts and he said to me 'There is something that I want for my birthday, but you didnt get it for me' and I said to him ' What are you talking about, I got you everything you asked for'. He then said 'Well you didnt get me something, so I went out and brought it for myself' He then took out the box and he said 'What I want for my birthday, is for you to be my wife, Will you marry me' I was totally shocked and I didnt talk for about 3 hours.

They really are great stories *NM* (long)

My FH is great at keeping secrets so good that noone knew he was going to propose except my parents. The day before he proposed he went to my parents house to ask their permission (such a romantic). That night was his sister's birthday party so we went to his Mom's to celebrate. At the party he asked what I was doing the next day and to my suprise I had set the stage for him. I was in graduate school at the time and needed to go to the library to study. (same school where we met) He said he would meet me there to join me to study. When he got to the library he said he forgot something in his car when we went to the parking lot he got down on one knee (our 4 yr anniversary of the day we shared our first kiss in that very same parking lot) in the beautiful fall leaves sun shining and said some wonderful things of which I can't remember he then pulled out the ring and proposed. I was so suprised and taken back I didn't answer after some promting I accepted and hugged him and jumped for joy. Thanks for letting me share.

Engagment Story (Very Long)

My FI planned a great picnic the day we got engaged but it rained. He told me he was going to come home for lunch (Which was so nice because he had been working about 2 hours away at a job site for weeks and I barely saw him -- he lied and told me he was working back in the office.) So he called to say he was coming home with a surprise lunch. Because it was raining he just set the table really nice and brought lunch from this great restaurant that we loved. We had a great lunch and he kept talking about how great we are together and all that stuff (mean while I'm in my pj's with my hair up in a barette and my glasses on, real classy looking.) I start getting nervous because of the way he is talking. So I start looking for other things to distract him. We were in the middle of buying our house at the time and I just interuppted his love talk to say 'We need to call the realtor'. So I did and he's just waiting patiently and probably nervously. I hang up and he says, wow pretty soon we are going to own this house and we'll be in this for thirty years (the time of our loan) -- in the months previous to this I kept asking him why can't we just get engaged b/c we are buying a house and we'll be in it together for a 30 year loan anyway, and he's answer always was (with a devilish smile), 'Thirty years isn't forever.' So that was my response to him when I got off the phone with the realtor. He replied 'No, thirty years, is not long enough. I want it to be forever.' And he got down on one knee and said 'Would you give me your hand in marriage,' and all I could say was 'I'm in my pj's!' Then he told me he had to go back to work and I was like WHAT!!! You are going to leave me now! But he told me to come out to his truck because he had somethign else for me. And he hands me an envelope. I thought it was papers for the ring, BUT it was plane tickets. He said 'I'm not going back to work, we are going to Charleston, and we leave in 2 hours!' Charelston is a favorite spot of ours. So I had to hurry, shower, dress, pack and call everyone I knew, to tell them the good news. Sorry so long and confusing.

Engagement Stories

We had been together for 7 (yes 7!!!) years already (he asked just around our anniversary!) and Christmas Eve of 1999, I had family visiting & they were only staying overnite, so I was getting very frustrated that he kept insisting we needed to go see the tree & lights set up in the village, so finally around 11:30 pm I agreed to go. we went and he asked right in front of the tree!! Turns out he wanted to ask that nite so I could show my aunt & uncle that were visiting!! Very sweet of him!!

Engagement Stories

My FH brought me to Whiteface Mountain near Lake Placid and while atop the mountain proposed. I had been in the middle of saying 'I hate you, how could you bring me up here, we're all going to die!!' because I am afraid of heights, when he got down on one knee and very simply said 'Will you marry me?' I said 'Seriously', he said 'yes', I said 'For real?', he said 'yes', I said 'really?', he said 'YES!' so I said 'yes.' We've been together for only 8 years, so it was rather sudden :-) I found out later that he had called my father the week before and asked for permission.

Engagement Stories

We had just moved into our new Townhouse and I had just gotten a new job. My Fi told me thathe was going to make dinner and that I could not be home while he was cooking. So I went to hang out with a friend. 3 hours later I was allowed to come home and was escorted up stairs to shower. My Fi had laid out a dress for me to wear and brought up wine after my shower. After getting ready, I came down the stairs to see my Fi standing at the bottom in a suit (with a dozen yellow roses (my favorite flowers). We walked to the dining room for dinner and my Fi had cleaned the whole house and lit a million candles all around!! He had set the table with brand new placemats, napkins and napkin rings which he had bought that day. Dinner was wonderful and he put the flowers in a vase on the table. After we ate we sat in the living room. I had recently gotten my sister a braclet for her college graduation and I hinted that I wanted one and my Fi hinted he was going to buy me one. He touched my wrist and asked me if I had found it. At first I was confused, then I realized he was talking about the braclet so I said no. He told me that it was upstairs in a drawer in the bedroom. So I went up to look for it and couldn't find it. He told me to come downstairs that it was down there. As I walked down the stairs I heard the song 'Amazed' by Lonestar on the radio which was weird b/c we were listening to a jazz CD. When I stepped into the livingroom he was on one knee with the ring in his hand!!! (Up until this point I really was not expecing this- he has made me a fancy dinner in the past and since we had just bought the house and my new job- I thought he was being nice)...then he took out a gorgeous wood covered journal and said 'I wrote my feelings in here before you walked down the stairs and now I want you to write yours in here so we can remember them forever.' That was the best part!!!!
