Engagment parties?

Engagment parties?

Who throws you and engagement party, and who do you invite? I would like to have one but, feel weird asking people to give a present when they have to give one at the shower and the wedding. What do guest give you as gifts?

My mom threw mine. Since you wedding is 2 years away the parties will be spaced out so it is fine. Most of my guests gave me money. We didn't register before but we still go a lot of nice gifts. We got a ton of glasses (martini, margarita, beer mugs, wine glasses, etc).

ETS: We invited immediate family and close friends. We had about 60 people.

your parents or his parents.

Brian and I actually had one for ourselves. We wanted our family and friends to meet and have a great time. When people asked what we wanted we said only for you to come and have a great time. But people ended up coming with beautiful gifts and money. I am only getting married once so I am living it up and enjoying every minute!

I don't think my parents or his parents want to throw us one. Is it weird if My FH husband and I throw one. I think both sides think its rude to ask for money from people. I personally don't even care about the money or presents.

It is not weird at all. Do what you want. I just saw your profile photo. You and FH are too cute!

My FH and I threw ours.

Then on the invite you can write 'Please come and enjoy the party and share in this special time with us. Your presence is present enough,' or something like that. This way they don't have to bring one if they don't want to. Most people are generous and will bring a gift. Don't worry! Your friends and family love you and want to see you happy and having a good time.

fh's parents had ours. and apparently my dad is having another. who knows!

Not weird to throw one for yourself though. We were thinking of having one at school to celebrate with our friends (we're both grad students in VA)

Thanks KimberlyBride! It made me feel better that I can throw one myself and not expect people to have to give gifts. My FH and I are not exactly financially stable enough because of grad school to throw one at a restaurant but, I was thinking maybe a knights of Columbus.

Yeah! we threw ours ourselves also. FMIL wanted to pay half, but I said how WE wanted to have it to celebrate with our friends and family. It was a nice Sunday lunch, and we invited close family and close friends (about 55). You don't 'solicit' gifts when you invite people to a party, so it's up to them if they want to bring them or not. All of our relatives did, and MOST friends did, which was nice, but not necessary.

So, I say GO FOR IT! especally since your wedding is not until 2006! (that's why we did ours, b/c it was soooo far away!)

American Legion hall for me It was only a few hundred to rent it. We got a DJ for $300, and had it catered by the local deli.

mine is Saturday, and we are throwing it ourselves. We made it clear on the invite that we just wanted to share our engagement w/everyone so that nobody would feel pressuered to bring gifts. OUr wedding is 6 months away!
In your case you can have more than 1 party!!!
