So our engagement party is coming up next month, and I just realized - I have never even been to an engagement party before!!! Our DJ is asking us how we want the event to run and I'm honestly not sure - what have you ladies done? Any special dances? announcements? speeches? Any help would be appreciated!!!

Re: Engagment Party Question
I don't know about any special dances yet, but probably won't do it. But definitely speeches, my maid of honor is giving one and so is the best man. I am going to give a speech and then maybe if our parents want to.

Re: Engagment Party Question
Also, if there are any anniversaries, birthdays and so on then you can make an announcement of that. Also they had asked us if we want to make an entrance but I don't want it to be too much like the wedding, so I said i'd rather greet my guests as they arrive. There are many things people do for engagement parties but just do it the way you want to.

I've never been to one either. the FMIL wants to throw one. is it basically like a smaller, less formal wedding? with dinner, cake, music, and dancing?

We are doing a party in a Knights of Columbus type room with a buffet dinner, DJ, etc. We are having about 120 people. Our theme is winter/snowflakes since the party is going to be on Dec 29. It wasn't going to be too fancy/extravagant/expensive but of course as the planning began, we all started to come up with all these ideas that add up - I am really starting to see just how expensive this whole process is going to be!!!

Hey! i just had mine last week so ill tell ya how ours went...we had it at a hall by our house...nothing too fancy, we didnt want it to take away from the wedding....first hour was butler style appetizers...then the DJ announced us when we walked in (i didnt want it but photographer and FMIL thought it would be good lol) then we did a dance together and everyone joined....then before the buffet was opened up both dads gave a toast.....then lots of dancing and cake coffee and trays of cookies on each table...i had an AMAZING time...have fun!!!!

Re: Engagment Party Question
Congrats! I didn't want to have an overthetop eParty. . .so we decided on the FireHouse they have a small hall room. It was perfect for what I wanted. I had a 'wine themed' party--with silver wrapped wine bottles with balloons tied to them. My favors were silver, heart-shaped wine-stoppers. For my engagement party we had a DJ, and my FH's father said a speech. It was so amazing. . .some ppl started to cry (he speaks so well!) I originally did NOT want any speech or anything but the DJ insisted! Good luck w/ everything-FM me if you need anything

Re: Engagment Party Question
We have been to alot of e-parties, even tho we didn't have one of our own. Usually the fathers of the & make speeches as well as the couple..
One of my friends actually danced w/ her FH to their wedding couple and they were introduced as the 'Soon to be Mr. & Mrs. ____' I thought that was really cute
