Entree selection on response cards

How does everyone feel about this? The hotel I'm interested in for my reception wants to know the entree count ahead of time. I personally have not been invited to a wedding that requested this in at least 5 years. I thought this type of request had been phased out lately. It seems a bit tacky to me to ask this of my guests. It's the only thing that I dont like about the place, and I want to book it. I'm going to see if they will work with me on it.

I personally don't like it because I never know ahead of time if I'm going to be in a chicken/beef/fish mood. : ) HOWEVER... I don't think it is poor taste, and certainly wouldn't fault the bride and groom for something that was obviously a requirement of the caterer. If you really like the hotel, don't let this bother you.

I went to a wedding in Florida once where they did this. I asked about it when we ordered our invitations and the woman helping us said it was mostly something done in the south. I don't see why anyone would be offended, though. The only thing I would ask about is how tightly will they hold you to it? For this wedding, I had put my fiance down for the beef option and that night he really wanted chicken, so that's what he asked for. Just something to think about. I went to an out of state wedding that had this last year. It was kind of odd, but what can you do? If you really want to get married in that hotel and that is the only way they will do it, just do it.
