Envelope Address Help! What to put on outer envelope...

Envelope Address Help! What to put on outer envelope...

We are having a portfolio invitation so we are not going to have an inner envelope.

Should we put Dr. John Smith and Guest on the outer envelope?

Should it be Dr. John Smith only?

Or should it be just John Smith?

The inner portfolio invitation will have a ribbon and seal around it. They will not be personalized to each guest.

No 'and guest' on the outer envelope so long as somewhere it is indicated that he can bring a guest. (Is that on the response card?)

It should be addressed:

Dr. John Smith

Dr. and Mrs. John Smith

Mr. and Mrs. John Smith

Miss Jane Doe

Mr. John Smith
Miss Jane Doe

If there is no other way he'd know he can bring a guest, I guess you could put 'and guest' on the outer envelope -- or tell him by word of mouth.

you put: Dr. John Smith on the outside.

you can then state that there are two seats reserved on his rsvp card

How do you state that there are two seats reserved?

Doesn't the RSVP card usually look something like this?

If it's not otherwise indicated inside the outer envelope (either on an inner envelope or on the response card), then you can put 'and guest' on the envelope.

If you're doing inner and outer envelopes or it's indicated on the response card, no 'and guest' on the outer envelope.

'And guest' shouldn't be on the outer envelope generally, but if there's nowhere else to put it, then just put it there.

there's an entire article on this exact topic on some bridal site. I believe it's on knot.com under invitation basics?
