You can use either one, whichever you prefer. I think most invites we've rec'd use the word 'and.' I think it lends a more elegant touch, JMO though!

Re: envelope ettiquette?
I am having the same issue. Everyone is giving me mixed answers. My invitation vendor said that you should use '&', though. Most people I have talked to said '&'. Honestly, after beating myself up over it, it's not something that anyone is going to question. If you write out 'and', nobody is going to say...'She should have used '&'.' or 'That looks funny.' I finally decided to use ampersand. My reasoning...because if I am adding 'and guest' or 'and family'...there are too many 'and's going on. Check it out: Mr. and Mrs. John Smith and Family Mr. & Mrs. John Smith and Family

Re: envelope ettiquette?
Ive always seen 'and' Any etiquette sites Ive went to have been 'and' for the wedding invitation. If its something less formal like the rehearsal dinner I used '&' for those though.
IMO, its the wedding invitation it should be a lil more formal and I think 'and' makes it just that. Its a nice touch. =) JMO though.

Re: envelope ettiquette?
i think the 'and' makes it more formal... although you'd probably be able to experiment more with the '&' design wise. ie. different style/font(if you're going with computer calligraphy)

Re: envelope ettiquette?
I actually like the '&' symbol a lot so I think I used that.
Ok, so I went to look (since I have the word file I used to print all my invitations on my computer) and I was wrong! I just did Mr. and Mrs. So and So on each invitations. When I had friends living together that have different last names or are not married, I did Mr. John Smith & Ms. Jane Doe.
Guess I listened to you all without even realizing it!
Just do whatever you like best. No one pays that much attention.

Re: envelope ettiquette?
This might sound odd but I think it depends on the font... I was looking at favor tags and depending on what font I used 'and' or '&' looked better.
I think 'and' is more traditional and formal than '&' but as usual I'm going to say go with whatever you like better! I'll post stuff to see what people think and even if not a single person likes the idea I'll still go with it if I love it.
