envelope question

We do not have inner envelopes and I am trying ot get the list together for the calligrapher. Just a few questions

Is it Mr. and Mrs. John Smith

or

Mr. & Mrs. John Smith?

Is it Mr. and Mrs. John Smith & Family?

Also is the 'g' in 'guest' capitalized?

Re: envelope question

You can use the & symbol if you'd like (especially for those who have long names. Yes the G is capitalized on the envelope. If you're inviting families it's Mr. & Mrs. John Smith & Family. If it's a person and guest it's Mr. John Smith & Guest and if you're just inviting the couple (w/o the family or if they don't have kids) it's Mr. & Mrs. John Smith.

You don't abbreviate anything on a formal envelope except 'Mr.' and 'Mrs.' etc. So, you write out the 'and' (no '&').

Guest is capitalized.

MiciB115 is right on all counts. Here are a few other options for a little more formal etiquette:

If you know the names of the children in the Smith family- write their names on the second line (just below Mr. and Mrs. John Smith)- this lets them know exactly who is invited.

It is also nice to call your single guest and ask them who they will be bringing and their guest. Then write the guest's name instead of (Guest). So, Mr. John Smith and Miss Mary Jones
