okay so a friend of mine is having an engagement party soon. it is hosted at her parents house. her and her fh live out of state. anyhoo they sent an invite through facebook, (its also a grad party for another fam member-combined party). we are going to miss most of it (have another party at the same time). so i was planning on giving what id give if the party was out at a hall, but all of my friendds were saying how the whole neighborhood will prob attend...blah blah blah. what do you think? you ladies would know best. how formal can it be if there were no real invites given out. also, cant all put in and give an actual gift since they dont live in ny.

When it comes to gift giving, go with your gut and give what you want. I tend to gage my gifts as to how well I know the person and how much i like the person too, not where the location of the party takes place.
