ER

Ok watching this episode has made me absolutly disgusted with the fighting that is going on in Africa! I can not believe how they rape woman like its their right and kill whomever they want. I know this goes on but there is nothing like really bringing this to someones attention.

It makes me VERY sad!!!

I was also so disturbed -- I thought it was a great show -- but I was so shocked at the inhumane things that go on there.

Re: ER

This episode was very disturbing! I was very upset by it, and like Tracey, I had bad dreams about it last night.

Did anyone catch the comment that Carter made when he was talking to the woman from the Red Cross?? He said that no one [in America] is truly aware of how horrible it is over in the Congo b/c there is NO OIL there to fight for, or send military or relief efforts over for.

Kudos to NBC for allowing that line to stay in the episode b/c it's so true!

Re: ER

Yes i caught that...and Its sooo true. I feel so bad for those people that have to live over there and have to suffer each and every day.

Remember the part when they were bringing everybody into the tent and shooting them in the head??? That part was prolly the part that was really disturbing to me. Thankgod that woman gave Luca the cross...I couldnt believe that they believed that Luca was a priest.

I cant wait till next week....Looks Like Carter will be on hiatus for a while. I was reading an article on line somewhere saying that Carter wanted some time off, so I guess this is the way that NBC is giving it to him.

Re: ER

I too was truly disturbered by the show. I, as an American, can not understand what it is to be opressed by a milteristic government. I thank God that I am here. But on the other hand, we have tried to help and yet again, we are portrayed as the 'Ugly Superpower' trying to force our ways on another country.

Sometimes, as much as it hurts and we do not understand it, the US has to back off and pick thier 'battles' carefully. Maybe we are trying to not have another Vietnam on our hands. I was young when the Vietnam war was over but I certianly remember the bitterness that the US had towards its soldiers. It was quite sad!

I would love for the US to help all those oppressed, but what about the other countries of the world???

Re: ER

unfortunately.. thats part of the US' problem... sometimes it SEEMS we only help those that we have a need from.. for its resources.. mind you, i say SEEMS. very sad.

Re: ER

Lisa, I agree...there are other nations in the world that could possibly help, but the US is always viewed as the most powerful - and with that 'title' comes responsibility - whether we want it or not, I guess.

Truthfully, the viewpoint that was raised in last night's episode was a cheap shot at Pres. Bush b/c of recent global events...and NBC left it in...

But the comment itself focused on America b/c the two characters discussing it are Americans....I think it would have been a whole different conversation, had there been a character who is a French/German/Russian national involved...JMO.
