I think it depends on your theme. I'm doing escort cards that match our invitations. But I've seen wine corks with an escort card attached, baseballs, paper weights, and favors with the person's name/table number on it.
Displayed seating chart and you can jazz it up with ribbon, rhinestones, etc and display on a easel

I did photoframe albums. Our tables were places from movies and video games and we dressed up for each place and took pictures. On the album it had a picture and they had to match it to the table. For example we dressed up as the couple from Titanic and did the iconic front of the boat scene.

We are doing digital place cards. It's a 42 inch touch screen designed however you want it. It s being done by Adtime Media, they are an LIW vendor :)
