Ethnic Music

Hey Girls
Are you having the band/DJ play ethnic music at your wedding? Are you specifically telling them which songs to play? If you are already married, did they listen to you?

My Fi is Irish American, and we were able to get a band that plays regular music and also Irish music. I only want them to play 15 minutes of Irish music, but I am petrified that his family will keep requesting different songs and the band will keep playing Irish songs.

I had to have a tantrum and a half not to have bag pipers at the wedding. And I am still scared someone is going to “surprise” us with bagpipers.

I hope I am not coming across as a brat, I just really preferred that we get a regular band, but FI’s parents were upset that their relatives were coming from Ireland and that they wouldn’t feel welcomed. So I caved in and now I’m nervous.

Any advice is really appreciated!

I dont know if this is possible but have it written into your contract. Tell whoever is in charge of your entertainment that under NO circumstances will they take requests from anyone who isnt you or your FH. I also told them that no one but hired and paid entertainment is to hold the microphone. I dont want some drunk cousin who thinks he can sing grabbing the mike. The bandleader will nod and smile and listen to the requests but will not have the band play them. We are paying too much for the band for THEM not to sing every darn song that WE and only WE want. My FMIL wants to hear 'Old Time Rock and Roll' I HATE THAT SONG!!! It will not be heard at our wedding. Good luck.

Speak dierctly to your band leader/DJ and let them know that you are ok with a few Irish songs, but your wedding is not Saint Patricks day, so keep it to a minimum.

I already spoke to the guy, and he said he will make sure the party flows all night. I just don't want it flowing so much it turns into Riverdance Maybe I will add something to the contract.

Thanks ladies you are awesome!

I'm Middle Eastern and giving my DJ a CD with about five songs on it so that my family can dance. We're going to do it right after dinner, and then bring out the Belly Dancer who will dance to her own music for about fifteen minutes. As soon as that is over, I'm having him dive right into some hip hop to get people to stay on the dancefloor and have folks join up.

Honestly, my sister had a bagpipper during the ceremony and it was really nice. I wish you good luck
