So at dinner with my FMIL the other night, she says she won't get her dress until my Mom does because 'that's how it's done'. I didn't think that was a big deal. IMO, my FILs are paying for the wedding so they should have first pick at everything. Plus my Mom lives in FL and is really sick so her getting a dress is going to be one loooong process. This was just one of several things she stated as 'the way to do it' What other etiquette is there that I should know about?

Re: Etiquette
You know, I don't really follow 'etiquette' anymore, especially b/c it's geared towards the brides parents paying for everything. Nowadays, so many couples are paying themselves, or FILs are splitting or even paying as in your case. You can try this helpful site.

I dont either for the same reason. I think your FMIl can get her dress, mine is already looking for hers. Besides my mom is a slacker and probably hasnt even begun to look yet!

Re: Etiquette
I agree -- you dont need to follow etiqutte on this one. The rule of thumb is really that the MOB chooses her color before the Groom's mom. I would ask your mom if she has a specific color in mind and then just tell your FMIL not to pick a dress that color. But as far as actually 'picking' the dress...i dont think it matters who does it first.

Re: Etiquette
The etiquette rules don't stop...For things like that i think it is fine...I do follow the rules on etiquette for invitations and things like that.
