hi ladies was hoping someone could answer this for me...i understand the concept of why you shouldn't wear white to someone's wedding but my question is, is it ok to wear a patterned dress that has white in it? such as a black dress with white polka dots or a black dress with a white flower on it? are these considered ok or will people look at you in disgust? thank you for any input...

Re: etiquette on not wearing white to a wedding?
I think that is fine!
As long as its not just a plain white dress its fine..if it has some white in it, i Dont think that would be a problem

if its mostly another color you should be fine
obviously i dont know what dress you are talking about BUT patterned dresses can sometimes be too casual for a wedding so thats a whole different issue

that will be fine, just as long as the dress itself is not white, thats a no-no

Re: etiquette on not wearing white to a wedding?
I think it depends on the bride too.....some might have a problem with it while others wouldnt. I personally wouldnt care; but I know of people who would disagree with me.

I would agree with tilde....but depending how formal the wedding is, as long as white isn't the main color I think it's fine!

I don't see it being a problem unless it was a plain white dress.

yeah pattern is fine. I wish my FMIL actually knew this before she went out and bought a white dress
