Etiquette Poll - vendors you interviewed but didn't book
What did everyone do about those vendors you interviewed but didn't book? Did you let them know you decided to go another way or did you just ignore it? I'm thinking I should write a note or email but I've heard differing opinions.
Thanks!

Thats very nice that you want to send them a note. Most of them followed up with me by phone asking if I would be pursuing them. I was honest with all of them. Most of them actually asked who I booked with. One even was as bold as to say 'Oh Ive never heard of them.' I dont think that is a good business practice.

Wow that is very nice of you. Either they called to get an update and i told them i went with someone else. Or i didn't talk to them again

i had a bad experience when i spoke with a vendor who i didn't book with - he asked a whole bunch of questions and was very defensive and started arguing with me about why i didn't book with them..... after that, i didn't contact any vendors i didn't book, and if they called, i generally ignored them. probably not the nicest thing to do, to ignore them, but i figured they got the hint after a little while...and i didnt' want to have to deal with defending m y choice again!

Almost none of them ever called me for any follow up. A few of them did call and one yelled at me for not booking him (after I really tried to sugar coat the reason why I didn't book).
The vendors do not hold the date for you so don't worry about not getting back to them. I saw about 9 photographers and 6 bands. I would have gone crazy following up with all of them.

anyone who took the time to follow-up with me, i usually followed-up with them...
if they became annoying, i pushed back and then finally would ignore...

After an argument....I just decided to not even bother. If they call me, I just ignore them. I know it is not nice but one bad seed ruined it for me. This dude is still calling my phone and leaving me messages!!!!!!!!!

Unless you signed something to hold a date (sometimes they will let you do that without a deposit), I would say let them call you. If you didn't make any commitments to them, you don't owe them anything.

I had a vendor call me three times asking why we didn't book her? It was very annoying. After that I mostly ignored them.

I didn't call anyone but if they called me I didn't ignore them, I just said I already booked someone else.
