Etiquette Question

Etiquette Question

I noticed that a lot of brides have different ideas for how to take care of the cards that guests bring with money as a gift such as the bird cages, card boxes and money purses, ect.

Is there any rules of etiquette that say which is preferred? I really couldn't find any information. My parents are of the opinion that when I go to each table I should personally take the card.

I almost feel like it is going to be awkward doing that.

Any advice girls!!!

I don't really know either, but my mom said the same thing so I am planning on visiting each table and taking the card personally. I think I'll put it in a card box afterwards.

You will find that people will hand them to you throughout the night, whether you want to or not. Not sure what etiquette says, but it is also a good idea to have something to put them in after the fact. We had both happen - people handing them to us and people just putting in the box directly.

I completely agree with your parents.

Even at weddings with card boxes, I feel cards should be handed directly to the bride and groom.

Re: Etiquette Question

We had both. We went around to each table to say hello and many of our guests handed us cards. Some put them in the card box. I actually preferred them to just put them in the card box, I felt like a banker walking around 'collecting'!! Besides, I worked hard on making the card box and I wanted everyone to see it!! I always put the card in the box, and I try to do so right away so I don't forget or nothing spills on it while I wait for the B&G to make their rounds.

As a guest, I generally prefer to put the card in the box rather than holding it. I just figured everyone used the box - ---
maybe I should get a bag......dang it.

I know what you mean, I feel weird having something as if your expecting it. Everyone knows you'll get stuff at weddings and you're trying to create a safe place to put them. My mom keeps telling him how tacky it is when the bride and groom walk around to greet everyone and they're carrying that bag like a collection bag I mean it makes sense for the bride to carry it because people will give them cards when they go around but it's hysterical they way she explains it!

I agree. The card box or birdcage should be for our convenience, not for the guests to use.
Giving a gift is a personal thing, and the giver should recerive a few words of thanks from the recipient.

I think the proper thing is to give the card directly to either the bride or groom. However, I do not plan on doing the rounds around the tables as it will take up the whole wedding!
